There are several arguments that can be made to place one vehicle system above the other, as far as importance goes. For example, without the engine, there is no motion, and the vehicle will not move. That said, you could also say that without the brakes, movement is not going to mean much if you cannot stop. Such is the story of the chicken or the egg. Either way, there’s no denying that brakes are extremely important, so for our How-To Tuesday article this week, let’s talk about the brake system — more specifically brake fluid, and how to bleed your brakes.

Like all the working parts on your Jeep, items get worn and need to be replaced. It is extremely easy to overlook or even forget completely about brake fluid. Stopping is something that most people take for granted, they simply assume that the brakes are going to work each and every time, without hesitation. I would imagine that we’ve all seen a movie where the brakes failed on a car — of course, those generally tend to be cut brake lines. But still, if you’ve ever been in the mountains, you’ve likely noticed the “runaway ramps” on the steep declines. They’re there for a reason.
