someone was worried about the latch part scratching off while moving back and forth, well, mine has been fine the last few months with no problems. I did it with bedliner. It is very durable and aids against scratches so no worries here. Now , if it were just paint then that might be a problem. Just take a look at the outside of the top that is painted black, not very durable . This spring, when it warms back up for good I will be doing the outside of the top myself with the bedliner.

Looks great. I agree the factory hardtop should come this way. You should consider sending your photos to the folks at Jeep. Very nice, great job.

GREAT JOB! If I would have seen this post before I purchased my Jeep I would have gotten the dual top group so I could paint the inside of the hard top. I do think I am going to paint the front panels because I am annoyed by the glare they produce from the light reflected off of the dash. Now it just needs to warm up.

Bought a hardtop at a junkyard for $250.
Had some damage on the back top corner. So
I cleaned the inside, sanded it with 200, wiped down
with alchohol, detached the latches, masked it off and sprayed
with the dupli color bed liner. Definately don't try to use the
duplicolor roll on bed liner.
It comes out terrible. The spray
works great. Takes about 6 cans. Now can't find anymore
spray, the autoparts place said it was recalled for some kind
of issue with chemicals. Tried 4 places. no luck.

Damn, that looks really good. I hate the white... it looks terrible.

I am definitely putting this on my list to do once I switch over to the soft top.

yeah guys I love it black, holds up well. As stated earlier in the thread I used 6 spray cans. The cover was great with 6 cans. I cant comment on the rolling method that could be used with this bed liner, because I have not seen it in person, but the finish with the spray cans was just what I was looking for. If the local guys don't want to tackle this project, but would like it done then maybe we could work out a deal, I could use the funds for the Rubi

I found the plastikote brand at walmart. Has anyone used this brand? I plan on spraying a small test area on a piece of lexan to see what the pattern / texture looks like. I have used the plastikote dip for tool handles before but would like to know if anyone has used it for the inside of the top.

Does anyone have a close up of the texture from the duplicolor?

Thanks

I can comment on the rolling method. It looks like crap. I only could get a couple spray cans and my brother got the rollon to finish. Rollon is horrible..uneven, lint from roller, blotchy...gave up on it real quick. Finally got more spray and finished
it off.

DO NOT USE DUPLICOLOR ROLL ON FOR PAINTING INSIDE OF JK TOP
