Default Optimal tire pressure with 35" tires?

They installed my wheels with 48psi and it's a little rough on the bumps. Kinda jolts the steering as well. I know this can be solved by getting the tire pressure correct. Hoping someone had the cure!

48psi seems really high... Find out what the tire brand recommends and go with that. Just a slight variation from the recommended air pressure can make significant changes in performance, safety, and tire longevity..

Don't get torn on them setting it at 48 psi because they probably just left it there after seating the bead and never bothered bringing it down to the proper psi. When I got my tires mounted they had one set at 55 psi and the others around 48 psi. Anyways, I run my 35" KM2's at 30 psi and I have a 4dr hardtop.

If you want to be precise (anal) on the proper pressure to run, here's the trick:

Get some chalk and draw a line across the tread. Drive a few hundred yards. Check to see where the chalk wears off. If the chalk wears off more in the center than on the edges, you need to lower pressure. If it wears off more on the edges, then you need to increase pressure. Repeat until the line wears off evenly across the tread. Once the wear is even, make note of the pressure and roll with it.

Doing this ensures even tread wear and will help extend the life of the tires. I do believe you should at least run down to about 33-35 before starting this process. 48 is way high.

HTH!

This is awesome guys, thanks for the info. I think 13.5 PSI (at the min) is going to make a HUGE difference in the ride quality. Now maybe I can stop bracing for impact like Captain James T. Kirk when I see a bump coming! Ill try the chalk thing too just to be certain.

I just aired down to 35psi and it made a world of a difference. It's almost back to it's stock driving mannerisms. I'm sure going to 27 would be like floating on a cloud.

BFG KM2's 35's over 15" - run 35 psi on the road and 12 to 14 on the trail.
