I'm using a very basic single throw toggle switch. Above driver side dash speaker.

Does this also kill the hill assist BS? I did this on my 2010 2door sport back in 2010 and it disabled traction control, ABS, and that hill assist crap. Also it threw up 3 lights not just the 2. I now have a 2012 4door rubi and can't remember witch wire it was I snipped or why it's not disabling all 3?

I cant believe Jeep dosnt have a shut off switch (well, "100% off anytime" switch anyway) right from the factory. Sure, it is totally off in 4 low, but all too often there is a scenario in 4 hi or 2 wheel that you dont want that bull-shit kicking on.

I know there is the steering wheel dane that can be done, but that is just plain dumb. If you actually do get it to turn off, getting it to turn back on would be a second stroke of pure luck. And, honestly, I like the system on while drving on the highway (especially with snow covered roads).

The switch makes perfect sense.
The reason the Steering wheel steps are done is because the Steering wheel angle sensor is part of the ESC system and to make sure it is calibrated right and not do it's job , if not for these steps, it could falsely think the wheel is in one direction and other sensors readings and cause you to have a major flip over, maybe during High speeds....That wouldn't be fun...LOL...

To Disable the system, not just Off, 100%:

Disabling ESC For Modified Vehicles (4WD
Models Only)
Vehicles modified with larger tires and/or suspension
lifts may experience early ESC activations as compared to
a non-modified production vehicle depending on lift
size, tire size, suspension changes and/or driving habits.
If early ESC activations are experienced while driving a
modified vehicle, the additional ability to permanently
turn off ESC is available. A steering wheel/ESC button
maneuver must be performed to permanently disable
ESC and defeat the functionality of the ESC switch.
Repeating the procedure will return the system to normal
ESC operation and restore ESC switch functionality allowing
ESC “Partial” or “Off” modes.

With ESC in the permanent disable mode, enhanced
vehicle stability offered by the ESC and ERM systems
is unavailable. In an emergency evasive maneuver,
the ESC and ERM systems will not engage to
assist in maintaining stability. This disabled mode is
intended for off-highway or off-road use only. Vehicle
modifications requiring the owner to configure
the vehicle in the ESC disabled mode, will seriously
affect the vehicle’s roadworthiness and safety and
may lead to loss of control and/or collision resulting
in possible serious or fatal injuries.

The following procedure will disable (or re-enable) ESC
functionality in the vehicle:
1. Shift the transfer case into the 4H range position.
2. Turn the steering wheel until it is centered and the
wheels are pointed straight ahead.
3. Cycle the ignition key OFF to ON.
4. Wait approximately five seconds for the system bulb
check.
5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the
right (clockwise).
6. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and
hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).
8. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
9. Turn the steering wheel back to center.
10. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF.
After performing the ESC disable

You are correct, the ESC is comprised of all this:

ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM
Your vehicle is equipped with an advanced electronic
brake control system that includes Anti-Lock Brake System
(ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist
System (BAS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electronic Roll
Mitigation (ERM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC),
Trailer Sway Control (TSC), and Hill Descent Control
(HDC). All of these systems work together to enhance
vehicle stability and control in various driving conditions,
and are commonly referred to as ESC.

To turn off Hill Assist:

HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, follow this
procedure:
1. Start with the engine off and vehicle in PARK (automatic
transmission) or NEUTRAL with clutch out
(manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply parking
brake on manual transmission vehicle.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the engine running, the brake applied, and the
clutch out, rotate the steering wheel 180° counterclockwise
from center.
4. Press the ESC OFF switch four times within twenty
seconds.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 360° clockwise (180° clockwise
from center).
6. Cycle ignition switch OFF then ON.
7. If the sequence was completed properly, the “ESC
Activation/Malfunction Indicator Light” will blink several
times to confirm HSA is off.
Steps 1-7 must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off
HSA. Repeat steps 1-7 to re-enable HSA functionality.

Of course it does anytime, when you cut the line and install a switch, you are cutting the Can Bus comunication for all that the ESC consist of

The Switch use to be Labeled ESP which is all of the above as a system and the switch allowed to control just the ESC without effecting other features of the system.

So i would think by disrupting the switch completely will effect more then what some are thinking it does. Be Safe to any and all that have or are doing this Hack.
