Default "Is there a god" thread?

I know there was one on here at one point, but I can't seem to find it. Anyhow, I have a question for all you religious folks out there. Before I ask I'm going too make it clear that I am an atheist. I'm not trying to start any drama or cause problems, I just like to try and understand other peoples way of thinking.

Now, with that said, my question is, those of you that "pray" to "God", has it ever made a difference? Do you have any way of knowing that it was your "God" that helped, other than "faith"?

I'm sure this will lead to more questions from other people and myself included.

Again, I don't mean to be rude or anything at all, I just wondered if anyone has an actual real world experience if "praying" actually doing anything.

True. It's good to have diversity.

Don't know if your trolling or genuinely asking but yes, prayer has helped me.

Why I am replying to this I have no idea. I am too bored I guess. I am not religious but am interested in spirituality. Religion itself can do 3 things to people. Make them better, make them worse, or have no effect. The Dali Lama said it best when he said " the best religion for you is the one that makes you a better person." I tend to think of God as something that is within everything. I do pray. To or who it's toward I don't know. It's more of an introspective discussion for me. I find anti-religious people just as self righteous as the highly religious who preach to others about their sins. Even the idea of atheist is self righteous. It claims you know something you have no way of knowing. Peace.

I understand that it can help to make you feel better and what not, but any real experiences of it making an actual difference in anything? And what proof of that do you have?

Definitely not trolling, just curious.

Its helped me deal with death and tragedy and has given me strength in time of need (very few athiests amongst Paratroopers), but no Ive never made it rain or the like. I always approach these topics cautiously as they tend to degrade fast.

Sorry I didn't mean to come off as anti-religious. I have a dear friend who is a Hindu priest and I value his time immensely.
