2001 cherokee wont start

Need some help guys. My friend has this jeep that won't start. It'll turn over but won't fire. Replaced the battery and the pcs but nothing still. You can hear the fuel pump energize when you turn the key to start so it's getting fuel. Any other ideas?

Well you need three things for combustion...air, fuel, and spark.

If you're feeling good about the fuel pump and that your fuel lines aren't clogged with something, next thing to check is spark plugs/wires and that nothing is blocking your air box. When it turns over, does it turn over normal or does it sound slower than usual?

i dont know if this fits or not but does it smell like gas?

If so its possibly flooded, i know it sounds stupid but once in a while my wifes 2001 WJ would do this

Bad Coil? Is it getting spark?

yjnick95 09-02-2011 06:33 AM

Busta is correct check the spark on the coil on plug module. It has two or three bolts attaching it to the head. Check the fuel pressure while cranking the engine.Because it will prime but if it doesnt see the crank signal it shuts the fuel pump off.If it has neither replace the crank postion sensor. Most likely the cause. It is located on the transmission bell housing. Upper left handside very top. Two bolt hold it in and the connector. This is very common problem.

Just give up on it and sell it to me cheap!

Yeah Ill be replacing my crank sensor on mine this weekend most likely.

Well after checking all we could we gave up. It was at a garage for a week before the found a broken ignition wire in the harness near the steering shaft on the firewall. Wtf. We would have never found that. Thanks for all the replies. It's back up and running...for now.
