Any Paratroopers on Here?
Ive been through there on the way to ft bliss. A lot has changed, I hope to get stationed there again and get back on jump status. spent 6 years there, 2002-2008.
I used to be. I wish I was still jumping. After I became a Jumpmaster it got even better. Nothing like standing in the door of a C130 as it does racetracks. I could hang out there all day.
Thats the best seat on the plane, especially in a C130. Spent what seemed like an eternity at the door racetracking around Sicily DZ in a C17 on one of my last jumps.
I'm an 11A, grew up going to Ft Bragg every Thanksgiving with my grandfather. Went through the whole Airborne/Ranger pipeline a few years ago on the way to being a platoon leader. I was light during my rifle PL time but I'm hoping I can get to an Airborne unit for my next duty station. I'd love to get to 173rd if its open but I sent a WPNs SL to Alaska and he loves it. Bragg is a good location for family and it is the center of the Airborne universe. I'd be happy with any of them.

Former Paratrooper here. Retired now. Did 21yrs. Only six years without being on jump status. Spent most of it at Bragg. Four years in Vicenza, Italy. Took up skydiving while at Bragg. Jumped out in Reaford. Miss that place. Live in Illinois now. By the way I was 11B
I'll tell you what doesnt help though, looking out my front door and seeing Airborne School doing jumps out on the DZ only like a mile from my house. I like to tell the family and friends its like living the opening scene of Red Dawn every day.
I was Airborne my entire career; Ranger Regiment, 82nd, 5th Special Forces Group. 11B, 11C, 18D, 18F. Always a Light Infantry guy, I never experienced the life of a "leg", it is still a foreign concept to me after 27 years of conducting Operations.
