Trailering with a 2WD
I may be purchasing a boat that weighs about 5000 lbs with the trailer, and I'm thinking about towing it with a 2WD drive SUV that has limited slip and a 7000 lbs towing capacity. Do you guys think I will have trouble on a cement ramp pulling the boat out of the water?
Thanks |
I wouldn't think so but....how steep is the ramp? Being it is a 2wd, I'd just take a look see first and check out if the ramp has algae on it or is real muddy or something that may give you a problem getting gription. But if the ramp is just clean cement, as long as you have something with a bit of power and a little weight under it, I would think you would be fine. Good tires that will grip that wet cement too sure couldn't hurt. I remember a friend had some Tiger Paws, and they just loved to grab wet cement.
Also, I wouldn't commit yourself all the way down in the water right away. You might want to back down a little, and pull up again. Back down a little further and pull back up a gain. See how it handles that first. Good luck.... |
I had problems with my dakota . Got stuck every time
now i use my Jeep not a problemm .. My boat and trailer 3500lbs |
2wd sucks for pulling up a launch ramp. I don't know too many ramps that don't get loaded up with slime during the season. I often just sit at the ramp watching all of the 2wd's getting stuck spinning their tires trying to get out.
