35's and 4.10's should be fine. Check the chart, and go with the lift!

I ran 4:10's for a year, it did kinda suck, but it was tolerable. Kinda slow going up mountain roads.

Yeah, even just going to 33's with 4.10 is noticable. I used to cruise up those hills while pulling my trailer, now i'm crawling. I can image how much worse it would have been if I'd gone with 35's. I understand how important the proper gears are now.

New topic:

I'm taking the family (Jeep included) up to Lake Tahoe next week and it almost seems criminal not to visit the Rubicon Trail while I'm there. Unfortunately, the rest of the family doesn't share my passion for rock crawling so I'm wondering if there is an easy to moderate part near the trail head that would at least let me show them what it's like, then turn around and come back without running the whole thing.

Eventually, some day, I'll go back with a group and do it right, but for now, I'm just looking for an opportunity to introduce the family to what I do when I go off on the trails and maybe, just maybe, they'll enjoy it enough to go with me some day.

So to those that have run this thing, is it possible to just do a sample / short run in a few miles and then turn back? Or will I mess up everyone else coming up? Or does this thing start off hard and should not even be started alone?

Default New to the Central Coast

I just moved to the cental coast from southern California for school. Are there any active Jeep/Off-road/Overlanding/4x4 groups up here that anyone would suggest getting involved with? I've spent plenty of time wheeling in the desert and I'm looking forward to a change of offroading pace up here.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

P.S. I'm in the Monterey area, just to be specific.

Thanks again.
