Default First timer MOAB EJS

I know it's early hammers and TDS haven't even passed yet, but I just got my EJS book/magazine in the mail from Red Rock. Flipping thru pages and reading about how this event operates I'm wondering if anyone from so cal is going to this event for the first time (so we can caravan) . I've already messaged with a couple of you about going this yr, but nothing concrete as far as plans go. So I guess what I'm looking for is advice about whether or not to sign up for the three day newbie run, or step up to the sophomore package. Or since I've got some experience wheeling (John Bull/ dishpan/ Tierra del sol/ calico) should I just go with others on the rougher runs to the more famous trails. I plan on going for about 3 days and will tent camp. I am mechanical and cause fix easy breaks should I have any- wallet will have a "incase shit happens" fund of about $1,000, AAA premier is in the wallet as well, and my jeep is raptor lined so scratches from brush or rocks aren't even a worry of mine. Thoughts? Input?.. Anyone wanna plan a caravan..?...

I've never been either, but I don't know if I will be signing up for any of their runs. I just want to go and explore, and see what the vendors have. I have most of that month off of work, so I plan on being there for a lot of the event. If you happen to be leaving when we do, by all means we can caravan! But I plan on going into Colorado just afterwards to continue my road trip, so you might be better suited to gather more caravaners. Also, I do plan to tent camp as well.... but have no clue where I'm going to do so. Haha.

We went for the first time last year and did Hells revenge. I was stock w/ 2" level kit. Did fine. This year I am built. 3 1/2 " lift. Rear lockers, front posi , gearing and winch. We for sure are doing Kane Creek Canyon Thursday and deciding what else this weekend. There are several of us and we are staying at Moab Valley RV resort. Ultimately we did several runs. Mostly on our own. It's a blast!!! Funny that your going into Colorado afterward. So are we.

Just sign up for some of the tougher trails as your rig and experience will be too much for the " package tours". We have 3 or 4 rigs going and you are welcome to hook up with us on some runs. We are doing Elephant Hill on Thursday, but are open for anything else on the other days. Going to do Hells Revenge, Fins, poison spider/Golden Spike more than likely.

The first timers package is only worth it if you want to see some pretty scenery. Most of that package can be done in 2 wheel drive. Since you have wheeled before I wouldn't do anything under a 4 or 5 if I was you.

Ok- suppose I'll stay away from the package deals. Ya- I'd love to join other forum members on the more famous trails.. My better half just requested her time off today and it looks as if she's approved for the time off. So now that we have her time requested.. Looks like I'll either leave Wednesday night or Thursday morning, and be there for as long as we feel our 2yr old can handle. Hopefully 4days-ish

So far we are doing poison spider mesa on Tuesday and Kane Creek Canyon on Thursday. We'll do other trails on our own. Maybe Hells Revenge on Friday for the newbys in our group.

Default Kane

Spent an hr watching cool videos of Kane creek and wow! 50 water crossings (givin the right time of year). Looks fun. I think I will have to try this trail. Also seen a couple other videos of elephant hill. Guess I'll still work on planning, but for now- I think my Thursday will be Kane creek. Are you going with your own group or with a RR4W guide

sm_rubi and I just confirmed yesterday that we'll be headed to EJS this year. Woohoo, I'm a first-timer, too! We'll have a Special Events thread up soon; we'll probably put together a meet-and-greet for Wednesday night, so check back soon!
