Run to Ruby,Az see the bat cave
What: A trip to Ruby ,Az
Where: Southern AZ
When: July 5th
Time: To be determined.... Possibly afternoon.
Meet up place: Cow Palace
Where's that: Off I-19 and the Arivaca exit.
Why we doin this: Cuz we can.... Ruby is a cool old Ghost that you can drive into and look around. There are a couple areas to picnic in. A couple swimming holes, and a nice sandy beach.
In the evening there lurking in the old tunnels and mine shafts are 1.5 million bats just waiting for dusk. This could be a better show than Carlsbad NM. as far as exiting bats....
There is a caretaker on site that will charge a fee to play here. He is an interesting guy and has a boat load of cool info on Ruby. There is a waiver to sign just in case you fall into a mine shaft. Remember this have been there for a long time and we will probably be driving over old tunnels.
This is also a family spot so unless you are really good looking, please no nude sunbathing.... I'll be the judge of who may or maynot.....

Bring a camera.....
Bats will exit at dusk.
Area is on Coronado Forestry map. There are lots of roads in the area to really spend most of the day out there... Because of this meeting place and time may change???? Depends of the majority...
Here is also a link to my web site for some cool Ruby pictures..

Some things to think about:
It hopefully will be monsoon season. If we get storms out thata way, we could get stuck out there for a while... Trust me, if some of the washes are running you don't want to go through...
The bats will emerge at dusk,,, 7:30ish.. You'll get back to Tucson area at around 10 ish...
Just to let you know...
If anyone had area maps to look at I was thinking of a trip in to the yellow jacket mine area, followed by the Califonia guch area, then Ruby....
For those of you not wanting to stay for the bats, you can continue down the Ruby road an emerge by Nogales... at,,,,, the Ruby road exit....

i'll be there if i'm home in time. should be home right around that time frame. as long as it's a simple trail. i'm bone stock and on 29" street tires.
TF 3" on the way, it should beat me home!

Sorry James, couldn'd pass that up.. BTW, will yours be ready for a mild off road???
I'll be posting that soon... I'm thinking meeting up at the Cow Palace at high noon. I'm doing it late cuz one of the main things is watching the bats exit from Ruby at dusk.... I'll figure it out in a few days....
Thanks for the interest.. Looks like there will be 6-7 going so far.. Good family outing also...
