True GPS

I am looking for a good handheld GPS unit with WAAS that will give me my current coordinates, not one that will tell me street names. I would like it to be able to breadcrumb a trip (tracking my location every x seconds), or whatever that is called. Altitude would be a nice feature also, but not that important. Also it must be able to have rechargeable batteries or a battery pack. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance for all replies.

Try the Magellan Crossover. I'm unsure of what WAAS is but this thing does the street thing as well as being loaded with all the topo maps and has the bread crumb features, moving map, etc. Just Google the name or go to the Magellan website.

WAAS is a technology that makes your location more accurate. Some units without will give you within 50 meters, but if it has WAAS it it accurate to under 3 meters.

I just bought the Garmin Nuvi 350 and I love it. I've had several GPS devices but never had any luck with them (TomTom, Magellan etc..)
The Nuvi has WAAS and they're very accurate, I was debating on getting a built in GPS / DVD / Stereo receiver but the price is ridiculus. The Nuvi 350 is currently on sale at BestBuy or Circuit City. I would highly recommend on getting it from Best Buy because they're on sale for $449 plus you get an additional 20% off with the coupon. good luck

I use one of these hiking, and it has never let me down. It also fits in my ipod mount for wheeling the only problem I have is i wish it had topo...

If you want to spend more you can get any of the ETEN GPS phones (m500,m600,m700,g50). I'm using the G500 one as my bluetooth GPS for my eventually to come Jeep PC (I also own a M700 for use at work). But I have it loaded with other software so I will be able to take it out hiking with me, into other vehicles, put my Cingular sim chip in it, play music, etc ,etc.

In the US it's branded as Torq P100 and you can get it for a song. Not even 1 year ago people were paying $500 to $700 for this phone, but Eten has since flooded the market with their phones that you can get it off of Ebay at the right time for under $150. I'd still say it's well worth $300

You just have to manage to find appropriate software to use for it after you buy it. So far I like Back Country Navigator. http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/

Ohh here's an example of breadcrumb tracking using back country navigator. http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/content/view/66/46/

The only gripe is that it does not come preloaded with maps. You have to download an area you think you'll be in. But they are free. Some companies like to charge for map regions after you get the software.

Waterproof

The garmin 76mapS is waterproof and has everything cept rechargeable batteries but you can get an adapter to plug it in to the power port so it stays charged.

I have the Magellan Crossover and it is portable with is rechargable (8hr battery life). It comes with a topo feature and waterproof to IPX-4 (whatever that means). It is also upgradable for marine nav if you need to. Is rugged compared to others and I really like it so far.

If you plan on hiking I recomend no rechargables. You can't plug things in, in the woods but you can always carry a spare set of aa's. Then when you use it in the jeep you can buy the cig adapter.
