My girlfriend has a 12 liberty and loves it. If and when she lifts it (yeah they make a few kits!) I will probably be driving it more than her. I personally love how well it drives and it's really nice for longer trips. The only issue was the fan blades breaking or something like that which is covered under warranty.

I drove a 2012 Jet edition for a while, it was a solid little DD. The ride was ok, interior finish was solid, and I liked it overall. I sold it to buy a JKUR (my interests/passion of offroading skyrocketed). The stock wheel/tire combo is eh at best and the ride is rough with it. I’d recommend instantly replacing them with 16” wheels and anything up to 245/70/16 tires (I ran Goodyear Silent Armor ATs and loved them).

OME makes a nice 2.5” lift, but the ride is anything but great on it. JBA makes some 4” lifts IIRC and those rode better (two to three times the cost though). Other than that, the aftermarket is limited and can be really expensive. Regardless, the Liberty is a great platform for a DD, weekend adventurer, and light offroader.

Never had mechanical issues with the KK. It was a solid little Jeep and went through the paces of my early interests/experiences with offroading. I hope the new owner is taking it offroad, doubt it, but I hope so!
