I don't care what people say about the new Jeep Renegade -- it's going to be a hell of a little Jeep. Sure, it's based on a Fiat, but at the same time, the Trailhawk Jeep guys and gals have been putting it through all the paces, and it's been performing amazingly.

I don't think they know what articulation means any more. Lifting the back corner more than my puppy at every fire hydrant.

KILLER ARTICULATION...

uhh...since when is lifting a tire...articulation?

The military learned 60 years ago that you don't need to (nor can you) keep all 4 wheels on the ground all the time. That's why the longest production military jeep, the Ford designed M151, with its unitized body and 4-wheel independent suspension had less articulation than the Willys (actually Bantam) designed MB.

Why does it matter how many wheels are grounded and long as the wheel in the air is not free-wheeling? As long as the power is getting to the wheels in contact, the ones in the air are superfluous! :what?:

Just because something is military doesn't mean its a good idea or a better way of doing something. Watching that video reminds me of watching FJ's out on the trail.

What matters to me is that the video is touting "killer articulation". If it totally ignored that, or said "Goes anywhere on whatever number of tires" I would have no issue with it.

Did you watch the video? Are you in agreement with the statement that the Renegade has "killer articulation"?

I saw a couple of these at the hotel I was at in Breckenridge a few weeks back

That MUTT video shows the problem - he wasn't crawling but instead used momentum to bounce up and over the obstacles. Eventually it will break or run out of momentum. As much as I hate the problems of solid axles (death wobble sucks!) you can't spin unibody and independent suspension as superior from what I've seen. Maybe a H1 would prove me wrong?

At least this thing looks better than the Cherokee.
