Can I tap the hot 12v for my compressor for cb power?
Hello all, I just received my Cobra 75 and I'm looking for a way to feed 12v to it. My passenger side firewall hole is already stuffed full of wires, no way any more are going through there. I used a fuse tap to run the compressor switch and the wire is easily accessible. Do you see any problem with me splicing into the hot wire that goes to my compressor switch?

I have both driver and passenger seat heaters along with that compressor tapped to the 12v dash outlet. If I'm charging a phone, have both heaters on, and flip that compressor switch I'll pop the fuse, but that has only happened once or twice, and by accident. Odds of me having all that going at once are extremely slim. I think you'd be ok with the compressor and CB tapped to the same fuse.

Get the harness from quadratec that allows you to tap off of the lower panel 12v/cigarette lighter. Price has gone up a little from when it first came out but it's plug and play. Done deal.
I've had mine for 5 years with no problem. Tap my Cobra CB into the plug harness and even run my Valentine1 in the 12v plug with both on at the same time.

Thanks all. I'm not talking about the dc that runs the compressor, I'm talking about the switch power that operates the relay that turns on the compressor. Really low load.

If your pulling power before the switch then yes, just don't use a wire tap, also be sure the wire is big enough for the load. CB don't use that much since they are limited to 4W so it shouldn't be to bad. Also be sure your grounds are very good.
