CB antenna mount on 3rd brake light?

Has anyone mounted thier CB antenna on the vertical portion of the 3rd brake light (towards the bottom)? Seems kind of thin, but I've seen some mounts to the thin horizontal tabs that are on the top sides of the spare tire carrier and those are really darn thin.

I have a 90 degree bracket in stainless from an old mount, and it looks like it would fit really good there, leave enough room to the gate/window and be pretty easy and cheap to boot. I am thinking it can mount just above the hole that is in the base of it. My plan would be to run a 2' Firestick or a 3' Firefly off it. Thinking more towards the 2' to keep it protected. Since it is for trail running and convoying, I don't need mega range.

Just wondering if the vertical portion of the third brake light is up to the task.

Anyone done it?

Originally mounted it higher up, parallel to back window. but there is no clearance for the wiper.

I was thinking about doing what djnibs did but I wanted to get a little more height. Seems like either way works well.

I initially had it the way you did but my wiper hit. I liked it there so much better, but oh well. lol

Its a 4' antenna. I haven't set it up properly yet, but she still works not to bad. I have a Cobra 19DX that I mounted above rear view mirror. I ran the coax through the gate then through roll bar to front. very clean install, can't see the wire anywhere. good luck and be sure to take some photots.

I did same thing for my 4ft. and all is well after 4 months. Even low bridged a few times and everything is still holding up fine.

I got a double antenna mount from this guy and it works great. He makes single and double mounts for every year Jeep out there. They mount on to the spare tire carrier and come up to about half way up the window. I'm a amateur radio operator, so I have an HF whip on one and a dual-band VHF/UHF whip on the other.
