FCC and Enforcement
I just wanted to give an example of what happens when a CB is used at power over 4 watts.
http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2008/DA-08-1189A1.html http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2001/da01974.html and when you use a ham radion without a license http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2008/DA-08-498A1.html |
Sounds like the making of a "Geeks Gone Wild" video.

I used to be one of those "outlaws" in the 80's, And pushed 1200 watts out of a mobile. It was fun, But times change.
San Diego had a lot of Big Strappers! I now have a 4 watt rig that very seldom gets used. lol |
I've run so much power in my old mobile that I could pull up at the Piggly Wiggly, dead key the mic and open the automatic doors. From SLAM out in the edge of the parking lot. I had to have two 140 amp alternators to support my whole setup. By the same contrast, I have an uncle who used to talk shortwave on 2 watts all the way around the world. Two different animals, but you get the picture. I wouldn't think for somethin maybe 100 watts and under...like a good clean modulator that you'd get a second look. Course, I got too much to lose now I'm later in life so I ain't gonna find out. I wouldn't mind tunin what I have up to maybe 15 or so watts. I don't think they'd hunt you down for all that.
Oh, a Piggly Wiggly is a grocery store chain down here in the south. http://melissamccart.files.wordpress...igglystore.gif |
I had a neighbor that was a truck driver going through customs in Port Huron Michigan get nailed with a 10 meter radio he was using for 11 meter. He ended up with a $15,000 fine and confiscation of radio equipment. It was listed in one of the FCC bullitens a few years back.

I just don't understand why people have to break laws and create problems for other people. If you really want to run high power to talk to people far far away why not get your ham license, talk legally, talk to people all over the world and NOT CAUSE INTERFERENCE for OTHERS! I don't really care about the legal aspect of the high power CB radios but it is just plain inconsiderate. Anyone within miles will be totally unable to use that frequency. People think it is SO COOL to run 1500 watts, yet they probably call the cops when the neighbor is blaring the radio at three in the morning while they are trying to sleep, they get pissed when someone cuts them off on the interstate, cuts in front of them at the amusement park, etc.
Then again, what do I know. |
