GMRS License
Last weekend i went through the process of getting a FCC user name, FRN number, and from what i thought filed and paid for my GMRS call sign. Is there a waiting period before they give you a call sign? I have my FRN number associated with my FCC user name and have gone through every page to see if they sent something or updated my account but havent seen anything.
It is the government so i dont expect them to be very quick but it is the first time doing this so i just want to make sure i didnt screw anything up.
Can a mod delete this, guess the FCC was monitoring my posts. They sent me an email with an approval and handle name.

Probably a good idea to leave it up (the post). As a long time casual Ham, I really like the GMRS option for users not interested in pursuing an Amateur Radio license.
Once you've experienced high power UHF/FM communications, I think it would be hard to go back to CB/AM radio comms. You get all the benefits of "Ham" radio UHF range and voice quality, plus the compatability with "bubble pack" radios.
Remember that the license covers your entire family, and "Jeep Jamboree" is making the move from CB to GMRS "Official"!

I have had my ticket for a long time but you need to continue to search for urs online...I dont remember where I found mine, but it was listed along with my ham lic, and I have never heard from the FCC, as I remember it wasnt too long after I applied.......look thru the web site and you will find it, sorry I dont remember exactly where, but as I recall it wasnt too hard..
Here you go, search by name or call sign. Choose GMRS and enter last name. I just searched by my last name and it came up.

But, you can get your license for $35 soon (maybe now) and have it for 10 years with family use. That's a bargain! Why not just do it the right way? You'll get the license almost immediately by email. I think mine was sent to me within a couple hours. I paid $70 and thought it was a bargain.
I've got 2 Jeeps, a JK and a JL. I've got a Radioddity 25w radio in the JK and a Wauxun KG-1000-G 50w radio in my JL. On the highway or in wide open spaces my son and brother and I can talk for miles and miles, in wonderful clarity. Well worth the money. If you get further into it you can use repeaters and get waaaay out there. I've got a couple hand held 5w Radioddity radios for hiking and spotting, as well. $40 bucks for those and even they reach farther than a CB from inside a Jeep, so you don't realy need to invest much in high powered radios if you don't want to.

I just got mine as well. The best thing to do is just call the FCC to check for approval. Mine had actually been approved several days before calling but I had never received an email. The agent will make sure you get that so you can print your license off.
Up here with lack of "policing" etc we just discretely use both GMRS and FRS with no licence. No one has ever got fined etc. We are modified Jeeps so if they want to track us good luck in their pickups in the mountains.
