Default Help!

Just got cobra 29 with Bluetooth every thing is hooked up good antenna grounded etc but swr is way too high the antenna I got was a vanco 4ft fiberglass whip 5/16" top loaded need to tune the antenna manual says adjust height up or down but I don't see any adjustments for height on the antenna do I just start cutting away the top of the antenna in small increments until it's tuned since there's no adjustment nut

Thanks Toad I got it done it was almost there Just needed a little more snipping did it then it metered way too high again uncoiled a little bit to stick out the top and got it dialed in then carefully put the rubber cap on. I wonder if I could cut it down more and start over since one good whack with a tree branch could knock it out of tune
Or should I buy a new antenna And start over

Dirk, I went through the cut...test...cut...test...cut...test phase too, and although it was working I went ahead and got an antenna with a screw on the top. Just made the whole process much easier.

Or more likely break it. You might get a shorter antenna for trails where trees could be a problem. And ones with a screw adjustment are easier to set up. Have it pre-set, then swap out the antenna before hitting the trail. I've seen them as short as two foot.
