JK CB & HAM RadiosBulletin board forum regarding all topics concerning CB and HAM radios, the installation of them in your Jeep JK Wrangler. This would include antenna mounts, wiring, tuning and usage.
I have installed my Yaesu FTM-400 in the JK. I put the face above the mirror. I designed and built bracket bracket that goes under the plastic and screws to the frame of the windshield. The body is below the seat in the microphone next to the driver. I plan to install a speaker above the driver on the rollbar. Attach the antenna to the rear brake light mount. It shook quite a bit so I had to do a vertical support as well. Anyone else have ideas on the antenna mount?
Arizona Rocky Road has a good sturdy antenna mount. You just need to tell them it's for a ham and not a CB so they make the mounting hole for the antenna the correct diameter. I had two mounts, one for CB and one for Ham in this photo. The wires at the bottom of the mount are ground wires that go to a screw inside the tailgate under the floor carpet by the big speaker.
I use the rugged ridge NMO mount on the front cowl during the winter when the HT is on it. During summer I run a NMO on my roll bar as we run a bikini top all summer. Much better than the spare tire mounts. I run the larsen NMO 2/40 on both mounts.
I like this and it inspires me. The mount would make it way to high for the garage. I am planning the same connection point but am going to build a bent version to position the base about tailgate high. I will post pics when it's completed.
