Portable CB - whats a good one?
Ok, time to get a CB. I don't want to mount one. I will be looking for a portable. What's a pretty good portable CB as far as range, durability, ect...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Suggestion, if at all possible try and find one local so you can get a feel for size/weight. My hand held is so big and heavy it could be used for a wheel chock if the jeep lost it's breaks.

I bought a handheld - didn't seem to be that many choices out there. I ended up getting a Cobra 38WXST.
It was okay for the first couple runs - but after only a couple runs, the antenna mount has come loose resulting in spotty reception and transmission! Between runs, the unit sits in a box on a shelf in my garage - so I'm not too impressed.
Now I'm looking at mounting a CB ...

I ran the Midland 75-822.. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
First ran it as a handheld, then a mobile mounted.. as a handheld, couldnt hear people 100 yards away.. mounted the reception was MUCH better, but then I was having trouble with people near me and not being able to understand them.. they sounded garbled (while wheeling, the nearest few jeeps were horrible, the ones running up front or way back were fine). I just bought a Cobra 29 NW Wx and it is night and day.
I wouldnt buy a handheld, because it will quickly become a paperweight and you will be buying another unit.

Don't know if you guys get them there, I have a GME TX6200. 5 watt output adjustable to 1 watt for car to car stuff to prolong the battery, small light, add a high gain arial, clip it on to my grab handle so I can use it without having to pick it up. Can charge in car as well full range of options you get on an in car unit.
