Rugged Ridge CB Mount Question (Over Rear-View)

How solid is the Rugged Ridge mount that attaches to the windshield loop? I ask because I'm getting ready to purchase either the Bearcat 880 or 980, and the 980 weights a pound more. If it is rock-solid, I'll go with the 980. If not, then I will go with the 880.

Thanks!

Well, heck. I went ahead and ordered the 990. It was only $16 more. I doubt I'll ever use the side band, but for 15 bucks I thought maybe I'll find a use for it.

I'd still like to know how solid the RR mount is, so please share your experience.

Thanks!

This section is not great for getting questions answered in a timely manner.

I just installed mine. I like it. It does make it so I have to use my rear view at a lower position but the whole look of the CB up there is really clean looking.

Thanks, guys. I just wanted to get it ordered so it would ship Monday, hopefully. Then I can install it next weekend.

I looked at the installation manual and it looks like it will be solid. I really like the mic cord holder at the top. Now I've got to check my antenna cord and see if I have enough extra length to take it up the A-pillar. I think I do, but if not, I'll have to go snag a longer one.

I had a Cobra 75, but for the second time I had problems with the plug wires. Seems like they last about two years with tugging and such, and then need repair or replacement. I just got sick of it. I also felt I needed an external speaker, so I ordered a Cobra that looks pretty nice, but it is just too big to place anywhere functional. This overhead mount will be perfect, since the speaker will blast straight down, unblocked. I've seen a few reports that the 890 version of this CB has a really loud speaker, too.

Can't wait to get it up and running!

Don't know if the RR mount keeps the radio up a little higher or not but I made my own mount to put a buddy's Cobra 29 on. Think it cost me maybe $10. I'm slowly getting the balls to mount my new 980 in the dash.

I installed the 880 with the RR CB mount. I placed the cb bracket on top of the rr bracket and I didn't have to move my mirror down any. It does shake a little since you cannot center the radio bracket up on the rr mount. I made that mistake at first and then found out the driver's side sun visor wouldn't fit.

Exact same problem I encountered today. All complete with mount and radio then visor is unable to close by 1/2 an inch. I can't believe that rugged ridge makes this product and when it's centered it doesn't work. Mine, and I'm sure yours, now is offset to the passenger side. But if I could go back with this knowledge, I wouldn't have gotten this mount. As it is, seems to work ok

I was able to get mine to hold tight. I had to really crank on the bolt that holds the CB bracket. I used a nut drive on the bolt and a phillips on the screw and at my Wheates that morning. Then after I installed the CB I used a wide flat head to really crank down the knobs on the side. I couldn't get the tight enough with my hands. It doesn't move at all anymore. I do have to add a little bit of a rotation to get the cable to work since it was pretty stiff. Maybe 15 degrees towards the driver. It does sit parallel with the ground.
