I was into cb in about '75.
Along the way I had a Sharp ssb that performed very well. Had a power microphone, and the combination worked well.

I have the President McKinley in my 07. I have been pleased wished it was a bit smaller but bells and whistles take up space.

 

I don't mind the size, I have mine mounted above the rear view mirror, I doesn't take up any usable space, but can get wet if I have the top off.

One of the best SSB CB radios for heavy-duty equipment rigs and off-roading is President Electronics. It is reasonably priced without sacrificing functionality.

 

Yes, a lot of people seem to like the extra features in many of the President radios

 

I've had mixed results with radios from Uniden. One worked fairly well, except for a curled cable crumbling after several years. Two others just didn't work well at all. The transmit range would not reach all the way across the inside of the store I returned them to.

As for SSB CB - it does open some doors. There is a serious range advantage.
