Default 08 jeep wrangler rubicon 3rd brake light wiring

I bought a used JK that had no 3rd brake light attached. The license plate and plate light had been moved to the center of the tailgate. I attached a new tire carrier along with a new 3rd brake light. The third brake light did not work, but stayed on constant when the lights were turned on. This made sense since the wiring had been modified from a brake light to a constant light for license plate. I followed the 3rd brake light white and brown wire in the tailgate to the right rear quarter panel under the carpet. The white and brown wire had been spliced into the white and purple wire leading into the right rear tail light. I disconnected the wires and reconnected the white and brown wire to where it was cut with the found other white and brown wire. This corrected the issue, and it was returned back to being a 3rd brake light.

No question. I figured out the problem and am posting for anyone who may come across the same issue in the future. This may help someone who may want to locate a wire for a constant light for relocating the license plate behind spare tire in order to have a 3rd braking light, and also have a constant light for the license plate.

I did not use the white and purple wire previously used in right quarter panel. I had already run wires from license plate light out the tailgate and underneath carpet back to the left quarter panel. I found a connector with a white and purple wire and a black wire leading up from below. I used a compatible connector and attached to the wires and connected them for a continual license plate light. Just sharing ideas for those who relocate licence plate behind spare tire.

I have cut off my third brake light over the spare because of the snow build up. And spliced in a funky circular third brake light mounted to the carrier which lights up through the spare rim.

The circular light is a good option for protection, and they look good.
