4 Pin Hitch Wiring Harness Install

2 Attachment(s)
I just bought a hitch for my 2010 X and now just need to install the wiring harness. I know how to hook up the connectors, but can't find where to put the additional wire (assuming ground). I will say that I haven't opened up the tail light yet, so it may just hook in, but would rather have an idea before I just jump in. Searched the forum and didn't see anything. Anyone ever hooked one of these up?

I have the rugged ridge, there was no ground. Also it had clips to attached to the factory holes to secure it to the frame. Was a simple plug connection. Does the harness come with instructions?

I wish...I picked up everything off of Craigslist. Was hoping there'd be something online

I used a mopar and it was plug and play. I would assume it is a ground. Pull the tail light and hook it up without that wire and see if it works without it. If not...ground that wire and re-check

I guess my question is where do I hook up the ground if I do need it? Anything to tap into behind the tail light?

Also, I don't have a way to test it today, just want to get it done so it's out of the way.

Mine did not need a ground hook up (mopar) but you should be able to use a sheet metal screw on the inside of the tub. Pop the drivers side brake light cover off and look for a good spot. It's a very easy install. Don't get stressed just take your time. Mopar instructions are online also. Good luck.

That harness looks like the Curt brand that I used. When you remove the tail light, you will see the two bolts that hold the tailgate striker in place. Find a nut and a star washer to fit the bolt and attach the ground to one of the bolts.

Return it and buy you a plug and play like rugged ridge. Its only about 27.00 bucks or so. It attaches to your frame just like the mopar one.

What Joe said.

Only 2 of the screws need to be removed and the light will come off. 2 of the 4 screws have pointy ends and 2 have flat ends, and the latter can stay. It's a ground with that O ring on the end based on the photo and could/should be attached behind the light on one of the 2 nuts. Odd that it has an independent ground though. Guess it's more of a universal harness. Dirty grounds are not your friend.

I installed a harness just like this last week. For those who say spend the 30-40 bucks on the plug and play one...well I don't know why. It tooke me 20 minutes to do this and it works great. That extra wire is the ground. It needs an independant ground for several reasons...Anyways, I installed my gound on the frame. worked out really nice. I can answer any questions you might have..
