Lightbulb Accessory power wiring help

Hey everyone, hoping to find a bit of insight on wiring a few items in my jeep.

I'm looking for a power source that runs only in the key on position, in the past I accomplished this by tapping into the cigarette lighter circuit. Because I now have a few items I would like to run in key on, I was hoping to run a dedicated harness from the battery to act the same way as tapping into the cigarette circuit.

Using a pre-made harness with a relay & rocker switch, I thought I could swap out the switch and tap those wires into the positive and negative wires from the cigarette lighter to trigger the relay. In the attached diagram from the harness - I tapped the black switch wire to the negative cigarette wire, and the red switch wire to the positive cigarette wire. This did not work, the relay is not being energized and supplying power. what am I doing wrong?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Looking at the wiring it looks like the white wire needs to be hooked to the cigarette 12V and the black to the 0V, The red wire going to the switch is your power source so you need to cap it off at the switch, the cigarette 12V will be your new power source tied to the white wire for the coil to activate.

Thanks for clarifying for me!

See if this is an easier way to get switched power out of the fuse box: Easy Switched Power Source

No problem, it took me a minute to figure out what was going on as well.
