Aftermarket head unit-how to keep Bluetooth and steering wheel controls?
 

Ok, I'm lazy, I like my Bluetooth and steering wheel controls, but I just went to 37's and the back window is 3/4 blocked by spare, so I really need to look into a rear backup camera and a double din head unit with a video display when in reverse...

Who here has replaced their factory stereo and managed to keep Bluetooth and steering wheel controls?

I know there are some wiring adaptors, just want to maintain what I've got now

Let me research for a little bit. There is an adapter you need that plugs into your stuff. I use to work for a car audio shop. If I remember correctly it wasn't as easy as plug and play. But I could be thinking of something else.

I used to install car audio like 25 years ago, when it was far simpler!

What am I going to have to do to retain the hands free Bluetooth buttons/functionality from the steering wheel?

I figure I need to install a mic in addition to the factory one for phone calls...

It's just that I'm pretty content with the factory unit with my amp mounted under the seat and replaced all the speakers

Just avoiding having a flashy thief friendly setup, but I have got to come up with a rear backup camera solution

The only other thing I saw was a $140 +/- and it seemed too good to be true, waterproof, lowlight capabilities and it was totally iPhone compatible and wifi

So here is the axxis one. So far what I'm finding is that you will lose the uconnect functions with the PACs. But the scan and volume and skip forward and all that will work fine. Haven't found much on the axxis but it seems simpler to hook up. Seems more plug and play.

Alright so just about any double din you go with is going to be hard to take out. There is a dash kit from metra that screws into the radio itself then it screws into the factory mounting points in the dash which is behind the panel anyways. Get one with Bluetooth and it will have its own mic. Hardest part is just running the wire through the dash to where you want to put it. I personally like the 7" kenwood a as the thin strip of buttons on the bottom give it a factory look I think and less flashy, not to mention a nice big 7" screen.

One thing you could do is get the backup camera with the rear view mirror that replaced your stock rear view mirror. It gets power from your backup lights which is normal and just run the video cable to the front, up the a pillar and to the mirror. Passenger side will be easiest.

Uconnect will be lost, however most aftermarket radios have built in BT for the hands free calling and streaming audio. The steering wheel controls can be used via an adapter.
