Please post final video and pictures. It looks really cool. How did you do the plastic molding? I'm very intrigued that you made it look stock.

Nice looking build brother, curious though, why 2 otterbox cases?

the back piece that the ipad snaps into can also be used as a screen protector so I travel with the ipad all the time didnt wanna loose it. Plus I wasnt positive what id need with making a port connector thats the only reason.
Im thinking about smoothing the back piece out might make it look better. I wish I had my radio and dock connector! If anyones wondering im just gonna use a cable since it snaps in top first I think thats the only way it will hardly be noticable at all. If anyone is planing on making this (use the factory top piece a million times easier) the problem is that shallow pocket toward the front of the daystar panel. If you want the top piece to overlap the ipad. There is no room for error at all pain in the a#$ plus what good does it do anymore on that angle anyway. btw if no ones ever seen it http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1.../untitled9.jpg this should allow me vol and power and other crap without opening the tuffy console at all for the radio sweet! |
gonna be a slow go at this point . For the guy who asked how to join plastic up above. I just used the panels mentioned and a piece of abs now also. A hot glue gun to mock pieces fast. then jb weld for filler takes forever to dry but will hold up better then bondo. So its a fill and sand one day at a time. You just gotta take the time to get it right cause once you paint it everything will show. When you think about it with this method its just the top piece you really gotta do major fab work and make . I think the overall top is complete even made pieces so when the ipad is out you cant see to the back of it a little more professional.

Looking good. I did a double din install in a TJ a few years ago. I had cut the factory trim panl and use bondo and a little wood (for bracing) to build it back up and smooth it out. It looked great for abot 18 months but the texas heat made the bondo crack. JB weld is a smart solution I think. My local paint store had spray can paint that was perfect match to the jeep color. I think I still have the can if you want to know what it was. The match was amazing. Good luck.
