Anyone ever had a winch immediately kill your battery?
Installed new Smittybilt 10K X2O winch. Plugged in..showed green light...hit the button real quick just to make sure all was working..
Heard a soft ...pop...from inside engine compartment. Jeep went dead..total dark. Hooked up to other car to jump it. Lights back on..click..click..click..cant get it to turn over. Jeep was not running when I tested the winch. Only planned on running for a second to make sure all good. Did the winch kill the battery? Anyone had this happen? I planned to get a heavy duty battery but thought at least I could install the rope on the winch with the stock battery. Thanks Jeff |
The battery could have an internal short or similar problem that appeared when the winch was tested. Bottom line is test/replace the battery and see what happens.
Stay in touch, curious how it turns out. |
What Mr.T said, but hey rather in your front yard then in BFE somewhere stuck

While the battery could have died, I would check your wiring to make sure you didn't get a dead short to ground when you hit the switch. Double check the winch wiring.
