cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290152237680 Let me know how it was to install, and also if it is working properly. If no issues, maybe this seller will have another ine and I'll but it. I'm still leaning towards the pioneer, or just getting the portable GPS, only because of scum on the earth that will rip it out. Enjoy your new toy. |
will do, i will let you know how the install goes :)

900 is a good deal considering that factory is 1200 to 1500 range. I have one and love it. I still haven't used all the features it has.

poo!!!!
well the seller just contacted me and said it will not work in a wrangler. She said the wrangler mygig needs one made for a "fast can-bus" system and the one she is selling is for the "slow can-bus". almost had a mygig!!! Anyone know if she is right? |
Yes she is. I think one is can-bus B and one is C. I believe the wrangler's, nitro's and seabring all use the new faster canbus. Usually the slower one is a few hundred bucks cheaper. There was another thread that really explained this well, I cant find it though. Somebody else was buying on ebay and posted the same question a few weeks ago.

So when looking for the correct "MYGIG" for the 07 JK you need "RER" and "CAN-C" version.. |
Avic D3 versus MiGig
I ordered a Mygig in my Rubi and have to say that I like it a lot. I think the style works well with the Jeep interior and I especially like the level of integration with the car.
Having said that, while I was waiting for the Jeep to be delivered (it took about 4 months) I got impatient and bought an Avic D3 which is fitted to my GF's car. On balance I like the D3 better. The cost of the Mygig was about 1550 and the fully integrated D3 (with handsfree phone) came in about the same. The Avic D3 has the advantage of much greater (AFAIK) flexibility with respect to integrating additional things (rear view cameras etc) and can be set up with either XM (which I prefer) or Sirius (the only choice for MyGig). The lower (??!!) 1000 dollar D3 does not come with a hard drive. This is not a problem for me as I have the iPOD feature on it and run the iPOD from a cable which leads to the concealed iPOD inthe glovebox. I find the navigation function of the D3 to be slightly superior with respect to identifying points of interest - I find it much more capable of leading me to random stores and businesses than the Mygig. The D3 also has a range of customization options (illumination color, screen background etc) which may be more of a concern when fitted in a lexus (?!) than a Jeep. The illumination intesity is keyed to the lights but is binary - i.e. there are only two illumination settings depending on whether the lights are on or off (at least the way it is set up in the Forester). The Mygig is wired to the dash lighting intensity switch and also has an override which is great (if you have the lights on and want the MyGig illuminated fully then it allows for that) - that's a weakness on the D3 - not sure if I might be able to fix that but the way it is wired right now, it's a disadvantage with the D3 The harddrive on the Mygig is cool but on balance I prefer the option to just run from an iPOD (if I had a choice of one or the other). I spent a lot of time reading the manuals for both and learning how to operate them reasonably competently so have made a fairly careful study of the relative merits of each of the units although they are both sufficiently complicated that there are still times when I have to refer to the manual to detemine how to perform a specific function. I concluded that both units are really very nice things to have in your car ! and each has specific merits. I think if I had the choice (for the Wrangler) to make all over again then I might go for. Avic D3, hands free phone/voice control module/iPOD wired to glovebox and XM radio (that would also give me the option of rear view camera). If I did that I would miss the look and level of integration of the MyGig ... If you can get a MyGIG in as new condition all fitted up for less than a grand then I'd think that was a good deal at this point in time. A year from now you'll probably start to be able to do it a good bit cheaper .. If money were not a factor, I would seriously consider getting a D3 with the integrated harddrive. At 2200 dollars (last time I looked which was a while ago) that's not going to happen but I'm figuring that the harddrive capacity might go up and the price down in the next 12-24 months in which case I might be interested. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy th Mygig and spend my cash on "proper" wheeling mods ..:yup: I just reread this - it's a bit wordy so I hope it's useful to someone and not too much of a thread hijack.
