Default Cluster Goes Crazy

Hello All,

I have found the odd thing about this problem but not a defined fix. Below is a video of what happens, seems to be triggered by warm weather combined with bumps. Basically several systems lights turn on and off, the rpm gauge moves all over, the dash "dings". Seems like the world is coming to an end but the Jeep runs just fine.

So far I have pulled the TIPMS and reset/cleaned all the connectors and changed out the battery.

Anyone else see this and know the fix??

This happened to me last month. The only thing that I wanted to believe why it happened was because I've been on the road for nearly 4 hours. I turned off my 2007 Sahara JKU with when I got back from Rausch, the chassis from the door handles down was submerged in muddy water nearly 5 hours prior. I had my jk parked and off for around 20 minutes. As I reversed out of a parking spot and shifted into first gear, the lights including the compass reading and mileage reading on the cluster flickered for a good 5 seconds blacked out but came back on a minute or so later.

I tried replacing the TIPM, no change. The problem seems to be worsening. Now the interior lights and head light flicker as well. It is off to the dealership tomorrow, in very sad condition.

You said you changed out the battery, but us it a new one and has it been load tested. These are the same symptoms I had when my battery went bad. Even if it's a new battery, I would have it checked

I have not load tested the battery yet so I will look at that, too.

The dealership came to the same conclusion that the TIPM was not working properly. They re-installed the programing to the TIPM. That cleared up all the weird behavior, seemed to be great.

Drove about 1.5 hours and when I pulled onto a gravel road and hit some washboard the thing goes crazy again. So it seems to be related to physical movement. The good news is all this crazy business seems to have nothing to do with the electronics that allow the Jeep to drive.

I decided to go on a ground hunt, removed any aftermarket tie ins to the battery (winch, trailer package and off road lights), took all the grounds off I could find in the engine bay and under the driver dash area, cleaned them and refastened, removed the dash cluster and pushed all the connectors under the dash together.

After that all the craziness was gone again. There was nothing obvious that stood out as a problem. I am happy I am getting closer. I will update as I drive it more. Seems like I found something even though I don't know what yet.

Default Flex Plate?

Just a thought, but all the idiot lights on my 2010 went nuts, took to dealer and something called the flex plate was faulty and had to be replaced. The thing sits between engine and tranny, with your observation about it may be a physical as opposed to electronic gremlin it made me think that you may have similar issue.

According to the internet which is never wrong, I have a flywheel with a manual transmission, flex plates are in autos only?

My 09 has done that a few times, but it seems to go a way for a while if I disconnect the battery over night. It also seems to always behave when the dealer has tried to look at it, but they did try to get me to beleive that my aftermarket radio may have something to do with it...

It has been about 2 weeks without the craziness coming back. It seems more related to the grounds, not the TIPMS.
