Engo or quadratec winch??
I'm looking for a decent winch but don't want to spend a lot of money on one. I've seen that Engo and quadratec both have one for about $300. Anyone have these brands or heard anything about them?
If I were u I would get the Warn VR 8000, with the steel cable, I believe it's 479.00 at 4wd.com with free shipping I have it but with synthetic rope and it's an Awesome winch, can't go wrong with warn. The cheaper winches will probably burn up after a while,u get what u pay for
I've been looking for one myself. I can afford the winch but not all the extra stuff (bumper/plate, tree savers, shackles, snatch block), and I'm thinking about H4 lighting to.
I found this link that I think is the best price your going to do ->https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/spon...c-line-200819/
Free shipping on these to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Lifetime Warranty on the mechanical.
If it was me I would get one with synthetic line. It's lower weight, not going to rust or crimp, less likely to whip if it was to snap. It's kryptonite is heat, uv, and being used over sharp rocks. If you switch later it is going to be more and your going to need to get a new fairlead.
Good Luck, if you find a better deal post it up

If you haven't already seen 4wheelers review do a search for "Massive Multi-Winch Shootout
Eight Winches, Ten Tests, One Winner"
It makes the Engo look great. Highly water resistant, and super low weight.

Thanks for the help! I'll be checking out the engo with the synthetic line, I don't really wheel that much but sometimes I go ride some trails alone and I would feel better if I had a winch incase I got stuck, I don't see why I should spend the money on a warn when it will probably hardly get used.
Most of the winches on the market are made in the same factory or factories in China. There are small differneces in design and maybe line strength (usually due to diameter of line/rope). I've had very good luck with Smittybilt winches and I've seen a ton of other non-Warn winches in action in brutal situations and I've never seen one break. If you are like most of us that are "occasional" users of winches, then any of the sub $500 winches are perfect. If you wheel every weekend and tend to be the guy pulling everyone up an obstacle, you need to find a winch that can be used frequently. Mile Market and Warn make certain models that do this (but not every model).
I am still suprised when I see people completely discount any other brand than Warn when it comes to winches. I think we have moved past that "will this winch work" phase and now moved onto "what do I specifically need in a winch". And I think Warn has finally understood this by offering a cheaper version of their winch. Of course, now ask yourself...what makes their sub $500 winch any better than Engo or Quadratec or smitty? They haven't been out long enough to prove that they don't fail.
Do some reserach and you will have a hard time finding any mass failures of the non-Warn winches.

The parts that go into building that manufactured part are specified by the company that designs it. The design company designs the part, they specify what parts are to be used in building that part and also specify who the suppliers of the sub components will be and where they will be sourced from. The design company even specify manufacturing processes and quality checks which get put in place. The manufacturing plant receives all those parts from those designated suppliers, which will obviously be different since they are designed by different companies, and they assemble the part. So how does that make 2 different winches designed by 2 different companies the same part just because it's built in the same manufacturing facility?
Your brother is an electrician like you said. So I'm sure he has found out that he often has to order parts for different brand washers/dryers from the same location. Does that necessarily mean that it's the same part he's ordering for a Kenmore as it is for a Whirlpool? If your brother was a design engineer or manufacturing engineer, then he would know better.
There are also companies that exist which do nothing but act as warehouses, parts distribution centers, and warranty repair centers for different brand manufacturers. Thus it is very common that TVs made by Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and LG keep inventory of parts for all these different TVs under one roof, thus making them a good centralized location for a TV repair man to order parts from. They're a "distribution" center. They can also be specialized in repairing TVs, thus allowing them to fix TVs from different companies under one roof, just the same as your brother is able to fix different brand washers and dryers.

Our winches are not made in the same factory as all of the other winch brands named in this thread. We only have one major winch brand in common with the facility where ours are manufactured. Our internals are case hardened steel components, and are very rigid. We haven't had any complaints of our winches burning out that have been used as directed. For the price point, our winch is a really good deal. We also offer a top notch warranty on our winch, which is limited lifetime against mechanical defects and a 1 year electrical warranty.
