Forward Firing subs?? anyone ever try this?
I have seen pictures of someone with subwoofers pointed forward from the back of an unlimited basically concealed in a box that was flush to the back seat almost... the subs had room to hit, move, breath but they were pointed directly into the back seat and they were obviously forward facing/firing at that point...
I like the idea a lot but a sound shop dude was telling me that it would sound like shit... and that downward firing would be the only way to go....
His theory was sound about running with no doors no roof and having the subs need to generate a lot of roll to try and fill a basically endless size space once you pop off the top and doors...
I just wonder if he is going overboard and forward firing is going to be fine...
the idea is going to be 3 JL12w6's all running off a 900wrms setup so figure 300wrms per sub which is right in there sweet spot zone...
I feel like even forward firing there is going to be MORE then enough Thumppppp...
but I don't want to have it sound like shit.. so anyone with experience please let me know !!

down or rear firing is the way to go.
i dont want to get into alot of technical stuff about "bass lift" and "cabin gain", but when the top is on, you need the subs to be down or rear firing to get the most out of them. when the top is off, it really won't matter which direction they are facing.
with three of anything you should still hear them ok, just may not "feel" them with the top off.

please do get into the technical stuff
I mean don't go crazy with it but if you could explain it a bit that would be awesome...
As far as it was explained to me... top on is what wont matter... top off is going to suck with forward firing because how much will be lost with open air setting...
As It was explained simply... Forward Fire would look cool, and sound good with the top on... top off would sound like shit...
Down Fire wouldn't look like much, but sound INSANE with the top on... and GOOD with the top off...
I have two 12's firing forward with the top on and it sounds great, top off you lose a little of sound, you can definatly tell the difference! I also have a security deck that covers my box that I think helps mine when the top is off! Hopemy input helps! But now thinkin I wanna try downfire!
I've got a single JL Audio 10" W7 and cant even breathe when its hitting. I've got it facing towards the back.
I was thinking of pointing it upwards so I can put stuff in the back with out it rolling around into the sub.

Your in a jeep... Not a suburban... 4 door is ok to down fire or rear face. 2 door should only be down firing.
And if the girl above me had a custom downfiring box.... It would sound even better an keep up the hitting with the top off.

Yea I am pretty sure I know what the fuck I drive, thanks...

Thanks for letting me know that downfire is ok... that's already been confirmed. the question was is there enough of a difference between downfiring and forward firing with the top off and top on to make it justifiable.

Thanks for telling me Rear facing is ok... but that's obviously not what I want to do... Read the post.

And thanks for suggesting that the girl above you builds a custom box, but that has nothing to do with the original post.
I feel like an asshole constantly replying to your posts with a thwack of the moron stick but dude so far you have replied to nearly every audio post I have seen with completely irrelevant things either bragging about what audio stuff you have, which you have yet to supply pictures of... or telling people complete misinformation... This post was asking for people with experience in forward firing subs to share their opinions on how their system sounds top on and top off doors off. "so anyone with experience please let me know !! " You start your post with some wise ass comment about what I drive. This is typical of your posts, and its behavior that makes you look like an douche. Try to contribute to the actual post... or refrain from posting.
Seriously I hate to sound like an old man and I know that no matter what there is still going to be dipshits on the forums but dude you have replied to like 7 threads that I am sub'ed to and every one of your posts is the same type of shit... it gets annoying...
If your claiming to have some experience with forward firing subs, in a four door, top on and top off. I still wont even believe you because you have posted so many times about so many different things that you have basically bashing people for not spending enough money and having a system as good as yours yet you haven't backed any of it up throughout any of those trolling posts with any evidence. I know, your friend owns an the number 1 audio shop in ATL you bumb the sickest system in the history of the world and no ones shit can touch yours unless they spend over $5,000 at least and even then you are better blah blah blah...
Sorry everyone else for letting go with the bitch slap but this is like the straw that broke the camels back...
I wish there was a way to complete ban you from replying to anything I post...

nice, yea thats what he was saying top off you will lose more then downfire.... but is it like considerable? I don't think so...
I am not trying to win any SPL comps or anything I just want some thunder when I'm in the mood and I want to be able to bump on the beach with a naked truck and have it rock pretty sweet...
Down fire will protect em a little bit more (but with seats up not really a concern)
I think I am going to Line-x the whole tub and box too so that might help with reverb and stuff...
got any pics of your setup ? I would love to see how the box is set up (distance from the back seats and stuff)
