Default Free Mod (kinda) - big difference

A couple of months ago I replaced my stock Infinity speakers and amp with some polk db6501's. At that time I went with an aftermarket amp to drive them, since I had already swapped the HU. I used Dynomat on the pods when I swapped the speakers. Well...I wasn't impressed. The woofers lacked bass and the highs were a bit harsh, and even after EQ adjustments, I couldn't get them to sound "good". Anybody else have this problem? I figured it was due to the fact that the pods are too small and very well sealed. My solution was to add Poly-fill, and I eventually did when I replaced the Polks with a set of Massive CK5's. The highs aren't harsh with these components, just very detailed, and the quality is much better. One problem was fixed, but the problem with the mid bass was still there. I thought about porting the pods, but they really aren't big enough to tune them to any particular frequency, so I just cut a decent size chunk out of them. I didn't take any pics off the pods themselves, but I can tell you it made one hell of a difference. The speakers are now able to breath, sound great, and I have noticed no rattles, port chuffing, peakiness, or any other wierd noises. If you too are brave enough to take a jig saw to the back of these pricey little enclosures, note that I have mine completely Dynomatted and I am still using the polyfill. You can see in the picture how big of a hole I made. I popped the speaker wire grommet out and cut there.
