Hey everyone. I have a quick question about gauge lighting in my 18 JKU Rubicon Recon. Are the gauges supposed to be backlit during daylight with the headlights OFF? My gauges are not lit and they are very hard to see/read during the day. It seems all of my other late model mopars are lit up bright when the lights are off except this one. I have to drive with my headlights on to see the gauges clearly. If it makes any difference, it was sold new in Canada so it may have some differences from U.S. spec Jeeps? What say the group?

How old are your eyes? The gauges are not the best and the new JLs are way better. But my eyes are many decades old and they still work enoughto see those gauges during daytime.

 

Mine eyes are 5 decades old, but still not in terrible shape. There are one or two other factors (sunglasses, window tint, all black interior, you get the point, it’s dark in there), but I didn’t want everyone getting wrapped up in those when my question was if the gauges are supposed to be backlit during the day like every other new vehicle that I’ve had in the last decade. In that respect, the jeep feels a little rudimentary compared to my 2018 ram tradesman which has backlit gauges, I can Bluetooth music from my phone, and has a better menu display in the cluster even with its space invaders inspired font. I’m just not familiar with the wrangler features compared to other Mopar vehicles of the day. I guess that’s where the JL and JT came in. Our Mojave was great, all except for the wide ratio manual trans which is a terrible pairing for a small engine with minimal low end torque.

Hate to say this but I bet WiTech software can change that to dash lights on with engine running as that is the Jeep operating software. Stated this many times prior. Lot of Jeep shops in the US have this software - cannot find a private shop that has it in Canada. No demand I guess. WiTech is about $1800 to buy a licence.
