GPS Navigation Antenna and Compass
Hello all,
I'm doing my first mod this week. I pulled out the factory AM/FM CD player and am installing a Pioneer Navigation head unit. I'm taking my time and the install is somewhat of a booger, but I'll get there.
The Pioneer unit comes with a GPS antenna that needs to be mounted somewhere on the dash. I want to put it on the center console "lid or top" and center it along the edge of the lid as close to the windshield as possible. There is a small self adhesive metal plate to stick down first and to that the small GPS antenna sticks to it with a magnet base on the antenna bottom. So I'm wondering if the small bit of magnetism that holds the antenna to the plate will cause problems with the compass. I've already gotten my compass off of calibration and once I'm through the install I'll manually recalibrate the compass. I'm just wondering if I'll have ongoing problems with the Compass if I put the mildly magnetic GPS antenna within 3 or 4 inches of the compass module.
Thanks,
B.S.
