Default Help - Pilot replacement fogs on new bumper not working!

I finally got around to installing my LOD mid-width front bumper yesterday. I ordered the Pilot replacement fog light kit with it. I just clipped the wires leading to the connectors on the factory fogs, added a little more wire, and hooked them up to the two leads coming out of each fog. But they don't work! The dash fog indicator comes on but not the lights. I tried checking for a fuse but I can't tell from my owner's manual or the fuse box which fuse powers those, or even the headlights for that matter. (I didn't check for power at the leads coming out of the harness; it just now occurred to me that that might be helpful.)

Has anyone installed replaced their factory fogs with the Pilots? Were you able to use the factory harness connections? What did you do differently? Any hints would be appreciated. (I'm hoping I don't have to use the switch and harness that came with the lights!)

I'm assuming you have the late-model JK and you just hooked up the lights directly to the wiring. The wattage of the pilot lights are higher than the stock, so you need to install a relay and in-line fuse holder to the positive side of the wiring.

The reason the lights don't work is because the higher wattage trips the breaker and the computer just shuts them down.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, my JK is a 2010 model. I was afraid that's what I was going to hear. I'm fairly strong mechanically speaking but a real dunce when it comes to things electrical. Does that mean I can't continue to use the switch on the light control stalk?

Seeing that you have the '10 model, you shouldn't have a problem. Check to see if the pilot's bulbs are H3. If not, then there's your problem. The stock fogs on the '10 model are H3 so it should match. With my '07, the fogs were 9145 bulbs, thus had to use the relay.

To answer your question, no you can still use it of course. Check with the company you purchased the kit from and see if they gave you the H3 bulbs.

If your answer is yes, they are H3, then re-check your wiring. Maybe you need to replace the wire you put in with bigger gauge wire. I believe we generally use 14G wire so try getting some 10G wiring.

EDIT: Look here for more info. Guy has the same year as you so this thread should help: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...P-amp-PICTURES

Just install a relay and take power straight from battery with a fuse. Use the stock wiring for turning the relay on only. Should work fine.

Your problem is the stock 2010 fogs are only (24 watt bulbs). Pilots are 55 watt bulbs so you will need a relay to use them.

Default Relay diagram

Borrowed from another thread...
Just hook up the power (12 volt wire) from the stock fogs to number 85 on the relay in stead of the switch in the diagram

Thanks. I believe I'll give this a try. As I said earlier, I've never been comfortable with things electrical but I think you've given me enough to make it work.

Just found this on the Sylvania website:

2009 JK Wrangler
Fog/Driving light
9145
9145ST SilverStar: The brighter and whiter light. Up to 35% brighter, up to 30% more downroad visibility and up to 35% more sideroad visibility.

2010 JK Wrangler
Fog/Driving light
2504

So it looks like the new fog lights for the 2010-up JKs have a direct replacement bulb now.
