Help with windshield lights..
 
Can anyone post pics of how you hooked up your windshield lights, how you ran the cables etc.. I'm installing my hella black magic lights on my windshield soon and was wondering what you guys did. Thanks in advanced.. I know I should have gone with some better lights but that's all I could afford on the budget the wife has me on right now lol..

i dont have any pics but... unscrew the two screws on the cowl panel. run lights down through the corner (so you dont have to drill). bring it around ot the passenger/ driver side. open up the the panels that mirror the door and you'll see a poly foamed hole that bigger then a nickel but smaller then a quarter. use a coat hanger and tape to run though. run cables to switch. tighten screws back down on cowl panel. run switch to battery with the same method on the passsenger side a WA-LA! you now have lights

It takes a little bit of extra time to completely remove the hood cowl. But I believe it's worth the extra effort.

Grab the cover on the wiper arm at the hinge point. Pull up on the back side. It will pivot up. Then just pull it straight out. Under the cover is a nut to remove the wiper arms.

The cowling itself has 4 allen screws and 4 plastic rivets. Once the cowling is remove, you should clearly see how the wiper motor wireing is ran back into the engine bay. Follow this route on both sides for each light. Just allow the new wires to exit the cowling at the corner seam next to the window.

X2 on this. It is the only way to do it IMO, just take your time. Use zip ties to keep the wires organized.

After you remove the nut on the windshield wipers, should they just pop right out? Just pull?

Dont knock your lights, Hella 500 style are great lights. I ran them on my first Jeep and loved them. I know Ive seen a lot of guys and gals running them on their windshields, roofs and bumpers. I ran mine back in 94 so you know they ae good or they wouldnt still be around and unchanged.

Fold the wiper away from the windshield like you would do for cleaning. This releases the downward spring tension on the mount. It takes a little force to get it free. I used a screwdriver and gave it a little pry. Once it breaks loose, it is LOOSE.

Thanks I'm going to try this tomorrow, hopefully I can get it done in one day, not knocking them just that everyone I talk to said I should have gone with the rigid lights, but I think these will be great lights, specially since they are my first set of off road lights

Spend a little extra time with the wireing. Try to invest in a good aftermarket harness. Think of it as a perminant instalation. Then you can up-grade the lights at any time. Also purchase a "Fuse Tap" along with the new harness. You can learn how to use it here. \/ \/ \/

FYI: Your "Big Box" home stores have electrical supplies a lot cheaper than an automotive store. If you need things like electrical tape, wire loom, wire fittings and such, buy that stuff there.
