Default Installing new stereo while keeping steering wheel controls?

I'm looking at installing a new stereo. I think I'll end up going with the Alpine CDE-136BT HU. I looked on Crutchfield and it says I need to buy the PAC C2R-CHY4 wiring harness. Will that harness allow me to retain my factory steering wheel controls? I chatted with a Crutchfield rep and he pointed me to PAC SWI-JACK adapter to keep the controls. It's another $70, so if it's not totally necessary I'd be happy to skip out on it. I've read a few posts on here about how the steering wheel controls work with just the C2R-CHY4 harness. Is that true?

Thanks,

By the way: Is Crutchfield a supported vendor? I don't want to post any links if they're not.

Im not sure if it works like that but I didn't buy it because of the cost as well. It's not bad not having the controls. Every once in awhile I push one out of habit and it doesn't work so I just do it on the headunit. Unless the price just doesn't bother you I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Default Try Axxess

I just finished my install using a Axxess ASWC with the PAC C2R-CHY4 harness. It's cheaper than the PAC SWI-JACK , you can find it online for 45 bucks. Maybe it's just me but I don't like have something there that should work but doesn't.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I'll just have to decide if I want the controls or not.

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong. But I think that one of the harness is to maintain the CanBuss integrity. And provides power to the new head unit. The other is to maintain the stearing wheel controls. If you can't afford both. I would ditch the Buss integrity. And run my own new power supply.

Has anyone used the Axxes XSV1-6522NAV along with the Axxes ASWC?

Did it work out well, was it 'plug and play'? Any issues, concerns or things I should know before getting them? Thanks

Yes, it was plug and play. The ASWC automatically programs itself to both the head unit and canbus. Everything works exactly as before.
