ipad mini in dash

The iPad idea sounds cool, but in reality every one I've done for a customer turns out to be a waste of their money over time. The idea is cool. The usefulness of it sucks. It is a glorified iPod. Nothing more. The picture sucks. The whole thing that makes an iPad cool is wasted when installed into a car.
IDK. I install them. Then when customers come in for system check ups and such down the road they say they wind up not using them. Haha.
Nothing beats a true vehicle specific source, like the above mentioned Kenwood. iPads????? Whatever. Get a good HU with an updatable platform and maps. Buy a cheap used 160g iPod and throw it in the glove box.
As far as iPad ONLY? It would suck. The preamp section, if you can even call it a preamp section, sucks. Very low voltage out. Less than 1 volt. It makes for such a low output that you have to add a line driver or turn the gains too high on the amps which induces noise and raises the noise floor.
iPads are for homework and angry birds.
High voltage source units are for "systems". Lol

The iPad mini that is coming out is no different than pioneer app radio with the exception of plugging in your phone. So instead of wasting space in the glove box or even On your dash why not just put the iPad mini on the sun visor? Or somewhere else?
Also the lightning plug for the new iPads is digital instead of analog so it streams faster.
What concept cars have you seen with an actual head unit in them?
I'm waiting for the ipad mini with 4g radios in order to have GPS chip and data. My dash is apart since 2 weeks ago, I had an ipad 2 in my dash, and ready to go with ipad mini now. I was using an infinity ims to control my ipad sound to the amp, but will switch to a jvc head unit and steering controls add on
You guys know that an Android device offers more flexility than an iOS, correct? Examples? Removable memory chip, fully operational USB port, etc. Apple is just copying other companies that already have 7in devices.
Having said that, take a look at Acer's A100 or Samsung's 7in devices. I have an Acer A100 and use it regularly with Topo maps and media. The 7in size is perfect. ;-)

I do agree about the android tablets somewhat, but really I think the iPad is way more user friendly and for what u should be using it for in a dash u need something simple an user friendly. How many people would use the android to its full extent in there vehicle? I know I wouldn't and that's where the iPad comes in. Since it is pretty dumb proof. And the failure rate is very minimal. And I like chocolate! Lol but I guess to each his own?
The real question is how to make any tablet work in a vehicle without adding the $1000 audio processor to make it play through the speakers. Any ideas? And please don't say hide a deck somewhere cause that's the worst idea ever. New ideas!!!!

I have an iPhone, which I simply a "mini iPad". Hence my experience with both. The Android OS is quite simple either.
What if applications to see topo maps and the maps themselves are free? And the A100 costs less than $200. Not a big pocket ache in case of damage. ;-)
The audio processor you mention is an audio amplifier? Those should be available in stores like Fry's and similar. In my case I just plugged the Acer's audio output to the Jeep OEM radio's AUX input. I hold my tablet using Vector's e-dock and a RAM mount.
P.S. I like both chocolate and vanilla. ;-)

People like different things, personally I want the iPad because I can get the data plan and pretty much have the Internet wherever I go in my dash. And I am really familiar with apple products and like the user friendliness. Is there other options? Of course. But this is what I want.
This install looks slick. Trying to hunt down this mount...
