Default iPhone integration with 2008 RER MyGig

First of all, apologies if my question has been answered previously. I’ve searched thoroughly, but can’t find the exact answer I’m looking for.

What I have: 2008 RER MyGig, MOPAR iPod cable, part# 82211853, & MOPAR Microphone, part# 82211743

What I want to do: Connect my iPhone 3GS to my MyGig, hide iPhone in glovebox, and control the audio functions of the iPhone from the MyGig screen.

What I’ve done so far: First, I connected the microphone cable to the back of the MyGig and activated the microphone using the engineering menu. The UConnect works great, including Bluetooth between both devices. Next, I connected the MOPAR iPod cable to the back of the MyGig and the other end into the iPhone. I get an error message on the iPhone and not much else. I cannot control the iPhone audio functions from the MyGig.

My question: How can I get iPod/iPhone integration with my 2008 RER MyGig? Is the “2008” version of the RER the problem? Do I need to buy a Lockpick? Is there any workaround?

08 mygig not compatible with the iPod cable. 09's are. I had this issue, sold the mygig, got the factory 6-disc, and a Garmin nuvi. Fit the bill an put $ in my pocket.

Ps, even with the iPod cable and 6 -disc, it wa no plug and play. The dealer had to use the starscan and update it to work.

Racer is correct, you need an 09 unit for this to work.

So even installing a Lockpick wouldn't work? (I was planning on doing this eventually anyways.)

Nope, lockpick won't help with this one, only an 09 RER

Is this written anywhere official i.e. mopar or jeep website? I don't doubt it but I need to get information in a fight I am in with my local dealer and chrysler.

On the 2008 Page, it is not shown as being available:

http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-...ubGroupId=3334

On the 2009 Page, it's list as available:

Hope that helps.

Talking

Okay I just got off the phone with MOPAR's dealer support line. He wasn't to happy with the fact that I was not a dealer but oh well. According to the person I talked to the ipod cable for the RER needs to be factory installed and that there is no way to install it aftermarket. Evidently the pins on the back of the radio are meant for microphones for the blue tooth stuff. The cables are meant for the lower end versions of the uconnect radios. So basically according to this guy it sounds like it was just some poor engineering on there part. There has to be a way to hack it though. The MOPAR number I called was 1800 84MOPAR. I got it from a dealer. I am sure that they would love to here from some pi$$ed off jeep owners with lighter wallets. I should have bought Japenese.

Jeeps don't do electronics. They are Jeeps. Jeeps do rocks, dirt, and mud. They integrate perfectly in that department. The Japanese are incompatible in that department.
