Why oh why did they make the key so honkin big? Actually, I can deal with the size of the electronics, it's the metal stinger poking at me when pocketed.

I really REALLY like the VW, AUDI, PORSCHE approach to the keys. (like a switchblade)

Does anyone know a way to emulate this with the jeep key? Seems simple enough, it's just a key and some electronics housed in plastic.

You'd think that with electronics getting smaller and smaller, that they could have given us a key that didn't take up an entire pocket. My phone is almost smaller than my key.

I've seen people do the switchblade for other cars, but I'm warning you, it ain't pretty, the stuff you have to do to make it work.
Also, we have the Sentry thing to deal with.

Okay, now to make it even more interesting. We've bought an off-road-go-through-the-mud-and-streams and what-not...don't drop your keys in the water! That'll run you $35 (unless of course you just tell them your key doesn't work anymore. Then it's a warranty thing )

Default Rock Keys

I recently purchased a pair of Jeep Rock keys and had them cut to match the existing Remote keyless set. After reprogramming all 4 together for ignition it still sets off my alarm when I manually lock the doors, and use the Rock key to unlock them.
Any ideas?

when you lock the doors, manually or w/ the remote, the alarm automatically arms after i think 15 seconds. to disarm you must use the remote or put the key in the ignition to turn off the alarm(but by this point the alarm is already going off) This is different from my grand cherokee which had a chip reader in the door and unlocking with the key in the dr side would disarm the alarm.

Default Stolen key

Greetings guys, it has been a while. I’m currently back in the USA on furlough from serving in Papúa New Guinea.

I got an email two days ago that our house was broken into. Guess what one of the things they took was?! The spare JKU key fob. I can’t take this Jeep to a dealership, the nearest is about 7000 miles away!

Any ideas what to do? The person in PNG with the other key is going to take everything out of the Jeep and store it for me, but how do I live knowing some Papúa New Guinean clown out there in a nearby village has a key to my Jeep??

I put out a 300 kina ($100) reward for the return of the key, it can’t be used for anything other than getting into my Jeep from time to time to steal everything they can find. I rather doubt they’d steal the Jeep itself. It’s the only JKU in all the highlands of Papúa New Guinea and the exhaust is pretty loud.

Open to any suggestions...?

And thanks for any help!

Tom

Jscan app and a Bluetooth dongle- it appears that they've opened up the ability to program your own keys. I had a local hardware store cut my keys so if the app can program, then we really don't need a dealer for that anymore.

When using the fast & easy 2-key method, if one of the working keys is a clone of the other, then the Jeep will probably not see them as 2 different keys & that method will probably not work.

When making a clone, a blank or cloneable chip is needed. You also need a programming machine for doing this. If the key was programmed by a locksmith & the Jeep was not present or he did not plug into the Jeep with a machine, and he did not have two working keys to begin with, then you got a clone.

When you have only one working key, or all keys are lost, then you need to use a machine to tell the jeep to learn & accept a new key, or two, or three, etc. There is a maximum number of different keys that can be associated with a single Jeep. I think it's 8, but I can't swear to that. The programming machines will be able to tell you how many different keys are currently associated with the particular Jeep in question.
