Default LoD light ideas???

I was hoping to get some of the other LoD rear bumper owners to post the lighting setup they have in their rear bumper, and give a small description of how you have them set up(switches and such). This will be helpful to future owners on their options. I myself have not went the conventional direction as far as fog lights. I decided to install grommet lights with red lense lights hooked up via the third brakelight wiring. This way I don't have to worry about the 3rd brakelight as it is now in the bumper, this also saved me the wiring and swith job. I do not do any wheeling at night so I would not benefit much from having bright lights in the back. There are quite a few light options if you go this route as well, they have reflector lights, leds, regular lense lights, etc. They even have whit lights with red leds in them so they look like regular lights but when the illuminate they are red. I like it . So what does everyone else have going on out back? JOE>

I thought those holes were the same as for the Shrockworks: Back-up lights. At least that's what I used in my Shrockworks (rectangular vice round, though), and I just wired it to the stock back-up lights behind the passenger-side taillight. Two 55-watt fog lights provide much better illumination when backing!

I figured that is what most were doing, I am hoping to get some other interesting ideas but it does not look like there are many. Did you hook yours up so you can use them when you want ans for the reverse lights as well or just to run with the reverse lights? JOE>

I hope someone chimes in here.

My plan/hope is to have it wired so they come on when the reverse lights come on but also have a switch to turn them on manually.

I just need to figure out how to make that work, I'm sure it's possible, I just haven't had the time to work it out yet.

I was thinking about putting the front factory fogs in the rear LoD, when it arrives. Does anyone know if they will fit? I'm sure I'll need to fab up some type of bracket or something to secure them, but I'd like to know if they will fit in the openings.

I too had thought of putting a set of the factory fog take-offs into my rear bumper. I tried the lights out and and found that because they are low cut off fogs, they will not illuminate anything higher than they are mounted. meaning when I look out my mirrors or out the back window, I can not see anything higher than the lights mounting point. so If I were approaching say a tree or fence post, it is light only a foot or so of the ground and dark above that. You really need a flood light pattern, not a FOG.

I am still looking for a light to put in my bumper.

I installed the LOD lights in their bumper with a switch to the dash. I am not sure they are much brighter than the stock back up lights but I can use them to light up the campsite or surroundings independant of the headlights and when used with the stock bu lights they do add some additional coverage.

There is definitely a way to make the lights work on a switch and with the factory back ups, I am not too sure of the "right way" to do this but there are some extremely good wiring guys on here. As for good lights for back ups, I have had great luck with the $10 cheap lights at WalMart, they come in single packs and are in the auto section. I really liked the ones I put in the back of my old 71 FJ. I think the factory fronts would mount up fine in the back, not sure you would even need to make a bracket b/c there is already one in the back bumper. You will need to get the lights figured out before you put it on b/c it is a beast of a job solo (trying to get it lined up perfect). Once you get it on you cannot get to the back to put lights in so??? I do wish they made the hole a standard size so we could have the option to use the LED round grommet lights in it. I am going to post pics of what I am doing by the end of the week. JOE>

I just installed my used LOD bumper the other day. I hooked mine up to a switch on the dash so that everytime I put my Jeep in reverse the lights didn't come on. I don't need lights when I'm backing out of a parking spot at the mall or the spot at my work. It is easy to do. All you need is a relay and a switch. You run a hot wire from the battery to the rely and then out of the rely to your lights. You then use the switch to run the relay. Lights can take a few amps of draw and that is why you run it through a relay instead of through a switch. Make sure you install a fuse in line with the power wire too. Lastly, go out to the local parts store and upgrade those 55W lights to 100W lights and you can see more. I think I got my bulbs for $5 each. Make sure you look over by the aftermarket driving light section and not the headlight section. The bulb I found in the headlight section was $20. Thank God the guy at the counter showed me the ones by the driving light section. If you have any questions just ask.

Are you saying we can get a little brighter bulb for the factory back ups? If so what did you use and what was the difference? This might be something I am interested in as well, I have no need for big bright lights behind my Jeep either. JOE>
