Default Main wire harness died..

Hey everyone,
I have a 2008 jeep wrangler X 2 dr.
Driving to work one day I noticed the air pressure low and security system light coming on randomly. When I left work my jeep was dead..

Mechanic has told me the main wire harness is shot an needs to be replaced. 800$ for part..
Can anyone tell me if this is accurate? And if anyone has a source for one cheaper help.
Thanks..

Perhaps it's the TIPM?

I have never heard of the harness failure without some indication like burnt wiring but I'm sure it does happen. I just have never seen it. I have heard of TIPM failures as jedg said so I would suspect that before the main harness.

I would start with the cheapest things. Check the battery connections and make sure they are tight and clean. If you can rotate them with your hand then they are loose. Remove, clean, re-install. Make sure nothing is attached under the nut closest to the battery terminal. That is what tightens the connection. (Cost=free)
If not that, I would have the battery tested at your local parts store which includes a load test. If you still have the original battery my guess is that's the problem. (Cost=free)
You could try disconnecting the harness to TIPM connections. Again, remove, clean, re-install. (Cost=free)
If still needed, I would get a second opinion.

Keep us updated on what you find for future searchers.

Think it would be worth me replacing this first? My mechanic had to add random wires to make the jeep run.. So I don't know what he's done tbh.

If he had to bypass wires to get it to work then that does sound like a bad harness or connection. Those connections do get dirt in them over time. Here is what the bottom of the TIPM looks like, https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-e...1/#post3899342. You could check which connector he ran the wires to and try cleaning that up. Or you can just pay if you would rather not bother with it.

I'll check that myself. Trying to learn some stuff. I'll try and get some pictures too.
