Sandman; I would advise against the 6160. I bought one back in September when I bought my JK. I wanted a mygig but it wasn't an option in the Mountain edition. I was going on vacation, wanted nav, and didn't have time to look for a mygig. I ended up getting a 6160 from a local stereo shop and had nothing but problems with it.

First I had nav but no voice for directions. I took it back and that was fixed. Something about how the PAC unit interacted with the nav.

Then when making Bluetooth calls I could be heard but couldnt hear the person on the other end.b that too was an issue with the PAC unit which is required for the install.

After that I started having problems with the sound fading out to nothing after about 20 minutes in the jeep. After 4 trips back for this they determined that because the radio sat right on top of the heat ducts and in front of the defroster it was over heating and going into protection. The shop tried insulating it with dynamat, hood insulation, and even tried adding a cooling fan. None of this worked and two weeks ago I just had em pull it out.

Not sure if other aftermarket radios have the same problem, but according to the stereo shop Kenwood says this is an ongoing problem with JKs.

EDIT Hey TonyT i was looking through your threads and i found some info. i just want check with you because in your thread you said to ask ppl that have already done the mod. so these r the items i'll need
-09-10 RER Mygig (High speed)
-Wiring harness (no statillight radio)
-An antenna

is that all i need? if not what else do i need?
I'm still trying to find some time to get some pics together for a tutorial of my experiences.

Compatible models that use the High Speed BUS System are:
  • Liberty
  • Nitro
  • MiniVans
  • Ram 1500
  • Wrangler

I would suggest 09-10 They have 30gig HDD and are compatible with the iPod Harness.

2009 Part #'s of RER units (RER = NAV) that will work:

5064739AA, 5064739AB, 5064739AC, 5064739AD

2010 Part #'s that will work:
5064818AA, 5064818AB, 5064818AC

If you want the uConnect to work, you'll need the MOPAR mic kit for the MyGig. Unless you have a 2010, in that case you'll just need the microphone.

I put a 2010 Mygig nav from e-bay it was $750 w/ mic and internal lockpick. I can input while moving.

Make sure you see a picture of the label w/ the part number of the actual unit you are buying...

The nav antenna hooks up to the back of the MyGig. You mount the antenna inside of the cover that goes on top of the radio/center dash area. It pops off from the windshield side with a screwdriver.
Oh...and if you look around I think I saw a thread somewhere about swapping the 30GB HDD out to a larger one. You use a program like Norton Ghost to make an image of the 30GB drive then burn that image onto the larger drive. IIRC it gives you a lot more storage space for stuff like music, pics, and maybe even larger map files.
