Default MyGig video while driving

I was playing a DVD this weekend. Of course it plays fine while jeep is in park. Soon as it comes out of park, it quits playing video. I want this feature disabled. I know about the lockpick, but I don't care about the other features it adds. Not to mention, I don't want to spend that much money for something "I" won't use (wife n kids will). My thought is that since it kicks off as soon as the transmission comes out of park, there must be some sort of "in park" sensor or switch. Should be easy enough to locate and jump out. Question is, what else would this affect? Is the switch wired directly to the MyGig unit? Or does it go into the CAN bus, then the "in park" signal transfer to the MyGig unit via the CAN Bus along with other info, such as "headlights on" to darken the display?

I am sure it doesn't sense motion via the GPS like the Speller Input disable in the NAV address input because it quits when I shift from park, not begin driving. Any thoughts? Anyone else interested in trying to figure this out?

Anyone have the piouts for the MyGig connectors?

I've heard that some dealers can disable the kill feature in drive with the Starscan Flash programer at the dealership.

if that helps.

OK so that tells me that the sensor goes to the CAN Bus and the signal passes to the MyGig via CAN, not direct wire. I am looking fot the sensor switch now.....

One of the Engine control modules, I believe the PCM sends a CAN message to the MyGig to let it know the vehicle is out of park.

The way the Lock-pic works is that it inserts itself between the PCM and the MyGig and filters out this message, thus preventing it from reaching the MyGig. The Lock-pic is a very expensive device which is doing very little. Anyone familiar with the Can bus protocol and the ability to write software for a Can Controller could design one of these in about an hour.

I checked inside the center console for such a switch, there is a 6 wire connector. 2 wires for the instrument light, 2 for the OD switch and 2 for the brake interlock solenoid. the signal must come from the transmission via that big multiconductor plug on the top front driver side area. Makes sense, since it knows what gear position is selected so it can be indicated on the console. May as well toss that signal over to the MyGig. Where are the days when there was a single wire that was wired to the park brake?

Those days are soon vanishing because instead of having a bunch of single wires to handle Parking Brake status, Speed Status, Light switch Status, Ignition switch status, reverse status, steering wheel control status, all these signals can be combined into just 2 wires and transmitted together over can bus communications.

It's similar as a computer. You can connect a bunch of different devices to a a single USB port and they can all communicate together over 2 wires on the USB connection. So you no longer need 10 different types of connections for 10 different devices on a PC.

It's these types of things which allows car manufactures to install rear seat entertainment devices like DVD players and give you the ability to control all the functions on that device from the front installed radio.

Question, when you refer to MyGig, are you talking about the factory DVD/NAVigation/HD system (730N)? if so i'd really like to know if anyone knows how to disable the lock as well!

You will save yourself a lot of time and headache by purchasing a Lockpick. Its plug and play, with nothing to worry about.

I think they're less than $200 now.

Default X2 on the Lockpik

Many discussions on here about this...and consensus always seems to be get the Lockpik... I did and am very pleased...allows the addition of the backup camera...which is awesome...and grab a mic while your at it so you can talk hands free in those school zones

Spend the loot...grab a Lockpik...you won't be disappointed.

If you want video in motion, lockpick is the way to go for sure. It gives you in motion video plus back up cam and extra audio/video connections and VES.

I can say for certain though that there IS a couple hacked mygigs out there that play video in motion without any device. I don't know how to get one or make one do it. I have seen one in person though. The one I saw had a lockpick added later to enable extra features though. It may be possible to do some type of software hack and enable the in-motion. The code that the software is in is very similar to linux called qnx. I read once that changing a couple values can enable, but I don't know if it works. Since I don't want someone blaming me for a bricked mygig or harmon suing me I am not interested in sharing all that I have read and researched. You may want to do some google time if you dont want a lockpick it is do-able. I would just use a lockpick though.
