Default question about adding power windows...

hi, ive got a couple of questions regarding installing power windows on a 2010 2-door JK. Hopefully, some JK wiring guru's can help me out...

-after looking at the jeep parts catalog & checking out all of the power windows hardware, I figured I would need to order & install the following OE parts:
Power regulator R&L (part#s)
68014948AA
68014949AA
approx. $35 each

window motors R&L (part#s)
68014952AA
68014953AA
approx. $70 each (might be cheaper; $35?; need to verify price...)

instrument panel center bezel w/ 2-door power window switch opening
5KU01XDVAA
approx $46

2-gang power window switch for intstrument panel-center bezel
4602675AA
approx $42

-optional parts-
interior door panel R&L, a.k.a. "carrier assembly" (part #s)
68014938AA
68014939AA
approx. $65 bucks each
*this is in case I dont want to bother trimming/adapting my inner door panel in order to accommodate the power window hardware, but hopefully it shouldnt be too hard to just adapt the power hardware to my existing panel.

*I realize that my door panels will have a 'hole' where the window crank should be, and that I'll have to patch or cover this hole up myself...

*I also realize that I can get a bolt-on, aftermarket kit, but Id rather stick with using OE parts and working out the install myself...

ok, so here are my questions:
1) assuming I have all of these parts, then it should simply be a matter of installing & wiring everything up, correct? Or, am I missing something crucial here?

2) regarding the auto-down ('express down') of the OE (stock) power window switches: is the 'express-down' functionality built directly into the OE switch itself, or is it somehow controlled externally (via the computer or some external timer/relay/module)??? I.e., if I buy the OE switch and wire it up, will I be setup for express-down straight 'out-of-the-box', or would I still need to install an additional module in order to get the express-down to work?

3) regarding making my jeep's ecu 'aware' of my power window install: how complicated would it be to wire the power windows back into the main/ecu harness, and would I need to do anything to the ecu in order for it to recognize the power windows? (I read somewhere on the forum about needing to 'flash' the ecu, what does this involve???)

please help, thanks...

I have no first hand experience so take this with a grain of salt.

2) I've always seen the auto down feature built into the switch and not the computer. It's like a built in relay in the switch so you should be set with the auto down feature with the parts you have listed below.

3) Usually manufacturers will install the most advanced wiring harness available to the customer in all the rigs and then omit any hardware that is not included in a package. For instance you may already have the wiring for power windows from the door plugs to the dash panel to the computer even though your rig didn't come with the power convenience group, it's cheaper to produce and install a single wiring package then to mix and match. All you have to do is install the hardware such as switches and motors to make the system work. the computer should sense the load on the terminals and should already know that the power window kit has been installed and it should respond accordingly.

the hardest part is going to be figuring out what wire goes where on the harness and modifying your door panels to fit the new equipment.

I'm not sure what you'll need to install in the fuse panel or if you'll need to install a relay somehwere to finish the install.

Talk to a Chrysler parts guy, tell him what you're doing and ask him to go over the parts with you to make sure you got a complete list.

thanks for the help...

well, so far, after d/loading & reading through the 2007 jk service manual, I found out that the express-down is, in fact, built into the switch, so I should be good to go by getting the OE window switch...

the service manual also has all of the wiring diagrams for both the power window&lock circuits, so I should also be able to get wired into the factory circuits.

I'm skipping on buying&replacing the body and instrument panel harnesses; way too expensive and too much work...Im going to try to just run my own wiring and splice in where ever necessary.

the big question/unknown still remains: will the ecu automatically recognize that power windows&locks have been added???

apparently, there are a few minor extra 'smart' features that the ecu controls regarding power locks&windows, a couple of examples: 1) when the key is in the ignition/run position & driver door is open, the ecu will ignore any attempt to hit the door lock switch (to prevent lockouts), or 2) the 'rolling locks' feature that automatically locks doors once the vehicle starts moving...

I guess I'll have to wait&see what happens once I get everything wired up...

A1 electric has a true bolt on kit. I have ordered it and will have it in about a week. I wont be using the kit switches, I have ordered the switches from mopar wholesale as well as the trim piece on the dash. Basically, no one will be able to tell they are after market.

question: are you going to just cap the window crank holes? does the A1 click include the hole covers? please let me know, id be interested in finding out...

also, Id like to know if you end up having to drill/cut into the plastic interior door panel (I believe, technically, its called the 'carrier assembly') in order to mount the new regulators and motors.

thanks for the help...

The A1 kit only provides caps for the 4-door version. I installed the 2-door kit on my jeep and the directions just tell you to mount the switch over the hole. I thought the switch would be too low if I installed it over the hole (it would be low enough for my knee to constantly hit it), so I installed it a little higher. Eventually, I plan on calling A1 to ask if I can purchase a set of the hole plugs, but for now they are just open...

I have ordered the OEM dash switch as well as the panel for the instrument cluster. This way it will look orginal. I will plug the holes for now, but eventually will replace the door panels with OEM ones.

Finished doing this mod last week. Works great and the windows open and close faster than the factory ones. I simply asked nicely if they could throw in the two caps for the doors and they did. Nice bunch at A1.

Hmm, Nice kit A1 has, and reasonably priced. One thing I wish I had was power windows.

Can any post an electronic version (or give me the link to ) the install instructions?
