easiest way to integrate your ipod with your JK is to not get a mygig and get the REQ radio, and uconnect w/ipod integation..

Mine came form the factory with the RER, i removed it and installed the above.. very happy with the set-up.

Your mygig WILL charge an ipod using the USB port on the front of the radio, but that is about all it can do.

The 09 RER's have direct iPod control; you need a cable (#82211853). Mine is on order, more info once I receive it. If you have an 07 or 08 RER you're SOL since it's apparently a hardware change.

As for "ripping" the music from your ipod onto the mygig -- the mygig will see and copy any mp3 files on your ipod if you pug in the USB cable. It'll skip any m4a/aac files. That's the experience I had when I tried it with my 3rd gen nano.

Cable came in at the dealer this week; I picked it up and did the install this morning. Pretty trivial; if you've read the other threads about pulling out the radio and pulling out the glove box you'll have no problem. No pics, sorry, didn't have time and others have documented those pieces pretty well already.

Direct iPod control from my 09 RER works like a charm. Where it seems to shine over just loading the music files on the MyGig hard drive is that it allows using the iPod playlists and also handles podcasts and audiobooks.

Am I hearing this right? If you plug an iPod into the USB port, you can copy any unprotected MP3 file onto the internal hard drive? That's too funny - since on a mac or pc you have to download 3rd party applications to copy music from the iPod to the computer.

well if you think about it the mygig does have software on it to pull music from a source. its the menu programs. sounds retarded but there essentially is a seperate function in there designed just to rip music

I connected my Zune through the Lockpick and it will play all my music and video files but will not down load from my Zune, also I can down load from my 1g thumb (music and pics only) drive but not my 8g.

Default plug and play?

gpd,

Did you have to have your dealer do any programming (starscan) in order for your ipod cable to work, or was it plug and play? I previously thought I needed to have the dealer do the install so they could do the programming also, but that would be awesome if they do not need to touch it. My ipod cable will be delivered tomorrow for my 2009 uconnect.

If you mean the cable from mygig to iPod, then no programming is needed.

If you are talking about using the non mygig, and the uconnect module/iPod cable, I'm not sure. And GPD has the mygig as well.
