rain and stereo don't mix?
The other day I drove my jeep to work topless. While I was at work, it rain for a short period of time. When I drove home, my Kenwood stereo seemed to be ok. When I pulled in the garage at home and shut it off, everything still appeared ok. When I opened the door, my cd was ejected and then it tried to reload the cd. This continued to go on until I removed the cd. About a week later, my jeep had a dead battery. Long story short, the stereo was draining the battery. I put the factory stereo back in and no further issues. I understand water and electronics don't mix, but it doesn't seem like the stereo should have gotten wet. Anyone else have this problem or have a way of water proofing the electonics? Don't feel like spending $600 on a stereo again. If you drive topless, it's only a matter of time before you get rained on.

Haven't heard of anyone's stock radio doing that, i'd suggest keeping stock radio in it until you find a suitable one that is waterproof. Your current aftermarket HU might not be outdoor (topless Jeep) safe. Have you looked into more Water Resistant ones, like the ones they put on boats?

Thought about the marine stereos, but haven't looked into them.

Lessons learned...
You would be better off with an OEM unit with amplification... we dont have those problems.

How is the mygig in the rain?

i have a 2012 with the touch screen and never had an issue. even while washing out the jeep dash with a hose. (dont recommend) but then again i have the new marine infinity system in my jeep. maybe try the OE touchscreen? it really is a good head unit, especially for stock.

Rustolume has a new product you can buy online called Never Wet, all Jeepers need this product!

I had the factory headunit powering my stealthbox and a big rain storm came and ruined my converter so I upgraded the headunit to a double din and have faced rain with no problems now. Thankfully my amp is in a safe location and the stealth box is weather proof lol

marine
go with marine, then you don't have to worry.
boat stuff is made to last. not only from water, but from abuse that a car doesn't usually endure. |
