Hardwire but with a relay? I interpret "hardwire" as a direct connection to the battery. Are you using any kind of activation switch with this compresssor? Or do you want to permanently connect it to the battery and use the power switch on the compressor?

Its 12v and 30 amp. What is "it"? The compressor rating?

Does the compressor have a fuse on it? If so, what size is it?

What is the compressor original power source? Cigarette lighter socket?

Its a harbor freight 12v, 150 psi, 30 amp, portable compressor. Hardwire I mean secure it in the rear compartment, run the cables to the battery and ground, cutting off the jumper cable connections. Then disassemble the switch and run my own in the cab. I have a relay for my windshield lights, so I figured I would use one for the compressor. The compressor will be for only filling air in tires so no tank is necessary. Hope this clarified it some.

Clarified. Yes you need a relay and a 30 amp will be adequate. You should also put a fuse as close to the battery as possible.
